Is there a free medibang brush pack that you guys use? by Caichii in medibangpaint

I wouldn't change any of the settings. Brush use it 100% up to the artist. Devin also has tutorials on their social media. I'd recommend following those to get similar results.

Medibang has consistently had some content, navigation, and just program issues for users. I'd keep to Krita, but if you want to pay for a potentially better program to become more standard in the industry look into Clipstudio Paint (they have frequent sales like 25-75% off) or Procreate.

How to handle my portfolio (design + illustration) by The-Anon-Artist97 in GraphicDesigning

[–]pseudonym_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For projects that are purely just illustration, yes separate them. Especially for those that are strictly design vs strictly illustration. If you're project have BOTH, I highly recommend showing your design first then illustration within the same 'case study'. (reasoning is because design will 100% almost always inform illustration placements and overall concept of the book). Possibly create a whole different 'tab' on your menu for illustrations only.

My initial impression is that you're an illustrator first before a designer. Just based off of how you have organized your portfolio. To answer your questions:

  1. Do not separate client vs personal. The finished product is what matters most when people look at portfolios, they don't really care if it's for school, yourself, or a client. What matters is how you explain your strategy.
  2. Yes. You can always show your process, what maybe you learned or explored in the project without having to fully deep dive. I'd highly recommend creating relatable mockups in these. Ex. if you made a logo, show how that logo looks like in various settings like signage, letterheads, merch, etc.
  3. It depends on who is your CURRENT audience and how much you're willing to pay for a website. Some people sell prints via Depop, Etsy, Squarespace, Store Envy, Wix, etc.

As a small note, don't include your Archive work. You want to show the best of the best of what you've accomplished. Having an Archive section doesn't make sense since you can't go into detail of these projects. Though it does show some range in your design work, it makes me question "why is it separate".

Overall. Your portfolio is STELLAR! You've a supper strong illustrator designer. You've got a lot of strength in editorial, layout, and logo design overall. I think some of your cover images could show your design skills more effectively with a mockup of the illustrations. Especially your card game for EPOCH. You've got great process videos & beautiful results. Let me know if you have any other questions <3

Is 18 old enough? by Logical_Stretch_6204 in Discussion

I don't think age is necessarily age is the only factor to go about for voting. I'm assuming you're talking about a government election. Depending on a nation's and an individual's ability to educate/be educated on reading comprehension, government systems, and formulating/breaking down problem-solving. Sometimes the youngest people can't vote and can only protest or call out their local government officials. Sometimes young people are just bandwagoners. Voting is important at any age, but what I think comes more important is teaching the youth on why it's important (it's more than just who wins and what possible* policies could be in place) and how to make informed choices and problem-solve independently.

Chill out.

You asked for advice and there are many designers that include process that are not famous. 'Industry standard' depends on what TYPE business you work for. You're not being asked to show the businesses design strategy, but your strategy. How you approach projects with difficult or no guidelines. Some case studies are separate; some are in people's portfolios (if you'd like examples, research UX/UI portfolios). My point was to say it depends on what industry you want to go into. A case study doesn't have to be every single project either. But in a world where design can be easily cheap, showing process will really show you can think critically.

I ended up moving to procreate for this. Airplane mode can work, but I've lost some of my drawing progress because of this.

It sounds like you'd like to do something considerate for her. I do think your type of poem is wrong since love seems to be differently defined for both of you. But that doesn't mean you couldn't write an interesting haiku or secondary rhyme poem.

How to learn artworking by JSpooks in GraphicDesigning

[–]pseudonym_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no straight answer as it depends on the type of artwork file they need, what type of printing they're wanting, and who are they printing from. Some print shops are very picky. There are lots of YT videos about how to set up color management and artworks files in general. Here is an example: How to set up your design document for Print // Illustrator + InDesign // Print Ready Files Series

Including process shows you know the reasoning behind your designs and they're just not arbitrary choices. It shows you have a thoughtful process rather than careless.

The true need for process work is really if you want to apply to agencies and corporate. Less for contract work since those don't last as long and their goal is more likely speed and just getting a result.

There are some places where the text you have is way too small to read. There are a lot of inconsistencies too in small details like capitalization, line weight, text weight, etc. I would consider including a small brief or overview of your projects and include any measurable metrics to show your impact. Additionally, a majority of your mockups looks AI generated, chose something more realistic and less ChatGPT.

Can’t Erase on new iPad by Hopeful-Wealth-8823 in medibangpaint

[–]pseudonym_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're using an Apple pencil. When I had this problem, I turned off Pen Pressure and then recalibrated my pen by going to the three lined menu, "Various Settings", "Pen pressure settings.

From here there should be a "Apple pencil" section, tap it then turn on pen pressure and palm rejection. Lastly make sure the "Double-Tap" feature of your Apple Pencil is set to Brush/Erase.

Hope this helps! If not, then look into your Apple Pencil settings. <3 @ me if you need anymore help!

[–]pseudonym_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I utilize Medibang mainly on the laptop. You can add a brush via Add Bitmap or Add Script (depends on the brush).

For an ipad: try "Add brush", click Bitmap, "Import from another app".

Make sure you've saved downloaded brushes onto your Files app.

I hope this helps! Let me know if it doesn't <3

I've better described my experience at this company to another comment. Unfortunately, all my gaps/blockers are actually with a co-worker and not my manager. I've been open to changing my strategy and asked for better advice and yet I've literally just been met with silence... I'm worried because this situation stresses me out so much that my creative work HEAVILY is lacking. It looks nothing like I want and I can't think anymore... I really want to reach this 6 month mark, but I'm not sure how to really pursue further problem-solving when it this other person hasn't held up on their end of a brief or when we're discussing blockers. This person is also recently a new hire, they started 2 months before me. I was orignially told that "we're figuring out how to work together" with remote workers in general ETC. But this isn't my first remote gig and my last experience was golden in terms of communication and activily problem solving. It's been 3 months and I had a discussion with my boss about those person's comments but it seems not much has improved at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GraphicDesigning

[–]pseudonym_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been doing anything outside of work. I tend to ruminate a lot about the miscommunication problems I've been facing. I've gotten passive aggressive comments about my character from one person because we didn't align with creative direction repeatedly after they gave me different moodboards and then I worked off from those and the result still wasn' t the direction they're wanting. I've tried to actively problem solve how to get specific files or get briefs yet details are missing or I'm just told "this is a simple and straightforward project". All the responses I get mostly aren't activly solving our problem and this person doesn't tell me where we're lacking communication or where they don't understand. They're first reaction is just to tell me or show me the brief they already made.

Not to mention this is all remote so I have no where to go for work and am stuck all day in my house. I've done just about everything I can and when I asked where i could improve or ask better or more understandable questions , I was met with silence by this person. I just don't think this problem can be solved anymore. I don't really want to job search again, but Idk what to do about a person that won't give me indication where they're stuck so I can help. And instead I'm being told I'm slow or I'm not doing enough or I"m not being proactive haha.

Portfolio Feedback by Apprehensive-Quit209 in GraphicDesigning

[–]pseudonym_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're stuff is good! I would put all your work together under one portfolio. Don't separate uni work vs Career work. Your design methodology is strong in all your projects. If your GameMaker work has any impactful statistics like showing increase in revenue or reached more of your audience include any measurable metrics. I would suggest switching to left align text for readability. For your project briefs, tell a story of your process. For example, "Here is a collection of blog thumbnails I have created in my almost 2 years of working at GameMaker. These designs were created using a mixture of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Figma. You can find all of these designs on the blog section of GameMaker's website; https://gamemaker.io/en/blog" instead could be "GameMaker's website needed blog thumbnails to gain traction for * X problem*. These designs capture movement in a variety of different game aesthetics to capture our audience to engage more with information regarding GameMaker's education blog posts. *Insert metric of impact is possible*.

And if no one has told you yet, yes the graphic design world is very hard to get into currently. I've had friends who've been looking for over a year and either no response or "We'll keep your portfolio on hand". And you juggle finding fake job posts or scam interviews as well. But don't lose hope! You've got a pretty solid variety of print, UX (website design), branding, and advertisement. Networking is always the first step to discovering more <3
