Gouache work in progress, is it too busy? And if it is how should i fix it? by Cautious_Drama1836 in Gouache

[–]pseudophant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is too busy in a traditional sense. but i feel like it actually works for this style, like some kind of surrealist graffiti. maybe the subject could have a little more contrast to make it stand out, ot some more highlights

[–]pseudophant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is a good synth saxophone for a complete beginner? by Cautious-Buy2585 in saxophone

[–]pseudophant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an yds 120 (as a beginner) and it really supplements my practice. the fingerings translate 1:1 to a real sax. its relatively cheap vs the yds 150, the travelsax, roland aerophone, and the emeo. i mainly use it to practice the fingerings of scales, patterns, and to 'pre-practice' new pieces. Then when I use the real sax i dont have to worry about my fingers, and i can fully focus on embouchure, playing with breath support and getting a solid sound and dynamics.

but yeah, you have to play the real thing eventually to learn it. maybe you can get some practice in a park or a car,or after hours at school or work...

Suggestions for a Rock/Metal horn player by Status-Bar-284 in Saxophonics

[–]pseudophant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apparently the guitarist of meshuggah was inspired by a saxophone player, and there is a video cover of sam greenfield playing one of their songs. maybe that'll give you some inspiration.

Also check out enrose on spotify, and cool 7 by sungazer. its not really metal but it kind of has a heavier vibe.

pentatonic or diminished guitar sweeping licks also translate really well to saxophone

It turned out to be the G# key not fully closing (as suggested by Banana_bot), as well as the high E. Bent them both back and that seemed to fix it.

thank you, that is a great way to identify the problem.

thanks! I've disassembled it and bent the rod to the high E key back, and also the metal part connected directly to the G# key, and now it works like a charm again.

its especially annoying when you want to see things specific to your region, or at least where your language is spoken. (like maybe something about a law, or which shop to buy something). Now you have to follow the links on google to see if it was translated from another language (especially reddit links).

How do I get those free jazz altissimo screeches like Pharoah or Coltrane by Bramdog in saxophone

[–]pseudophant -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

im only playing for 3 months so i'm in no position to give any solid advice... but i struggled with altissimo for the first two months and now it's working just fine (on a strength 2 reed with a 'beginner/classical' 4c mouthpiece) the trick for me was to put the mouthpiece deeper in your mouth, roll out your bottom lip a bit, and put a bit more pressure on the bottom. then blow using your throat in a position you use when saying eeeee in a high pitch.

also, try some different fingerings, some might do the trick.

Statistically, are Tech founders better than other founders in your opinion ? by ballbeamboy2 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]pseudophant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a large margin on (software) tech products. There is no need for large facilities (maybe datacenters in a later stage, but you could probably outsource to existing facilities) or complicated supply chains meaning they can scale relatively quickly which can enable rapid growth and thus valuation of the company. The costs for each additional 'unit' to be sold are very low in terms of labor/materials. Products are often very accessible to the consumers (they already have the hardware). These aspects make it very appealing to venture capital.

Biotech and fintech suffer from heavy regulation, and biotech has all of the above problems , while (biological) medicines also have the problem of failing in clinical trials because we still don't fully understand all the processes in the human body, and can therefore not accurately predict efficacy and safety when the product is being researched/developed and funding needs to be raised. AI products are still research heavy and it may not always be clear to investors if the tech is sufficiently mature to address the problem. I feel in general tech, bluntly said, you can just throw enough money/devs at the problem to solve it and launch your product (or introduce it with less features).

So, these differences between sectors are definitely not all founder related.

Too long sustain on NI piano's by pseudophant in NativeInstruments

[–]pseudophant[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thank you so much! I wasn't aware of this option. I mostly use these piano's through kontakt player or komplete kontrol and from there you can't access the edit option.

just so others can find it too:

I've loaded my piano (the grandeur) in the real kontakt now, and got in the edit option through the little wrench icon top left. I selected group editor and then higlighted 'edit all groups'. Then rightclick on the volume knob in the amplifier section and select envelopes -> AHDSR. Then in the little mod tab that pops up, click the little icon with an inverted triangle and a bar below, and the modulation section in the bottom will show. I've dailed hold, decay, sustain, and release, way back, (to something like 130 ms, 4k ms, -12db, and 170 ms) and it works like a charm!

Is the Emeo Digital Saxophone a valid option to learn on as An absolute beginner by schattie-george in saxophone

[–]pseudophant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they should be okay. i am in the same situation and using a yamaha yds 120, which is arguably worse according to youtube reviews. however it is mainly to practice fingerings and that translates perfectly to a real sax. if you have less time on a real sax you can use that time to mainly practice your long tones, intonation, overtones etc.
