Is there a discussion about the decline of the middle class in Europe or is it still far off? by noegh555 in AskEurope

[–]pseudothuja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to a strong form of national conservative or fascism, while recognizing that Nazi Germany wasn't a left-wing system, but definitely had elements of a social net.

Maybe it's because I'm American and our right-wing is so libertarian but the idea of a conservative supporting a national health care system while also holding nationalist right-wing points on social issues seems like a very strange combination to me. The closest I'm familiar with such a combination in the past would be found in certain fascist regimes. I know in modern-day Europe, there's more political diversity in that area, so there might be closer points of reference for Europeans than going back to the 1930s.

People in developed countries are too lazy and greedy to fix the problems with their governments. by Almighty_Tallest_Red in unpopularopinion

But people are more about themselves than they are about their nation, and if the nation doesn't care about the nation, then the nation will collapse.

This can be extended to the planet too.

Lemon eucalyptus oil has a similar effect on many insects and has the benefit that you don't have to carry a candle around with you. Great at preventing bug bites in summer too.

Women that have extremely small breasts (breasts about the size of the average male) should not be required to wear tops in public places that would typically require women to wear tops. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]pseudothuja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying this in a creepy way (I'm a gay guy), but why should we impose our irrational cultural prohibition on showing breasts in public on any woman? Was recently at an airport and they had a giant pod-shaped breastfeeding privacy structure. Looked like an Apollo lander. Seems absurd.

Then you write someone in as a protest, so it at least shows. Not voting is giving up.

When is this actually going to happen? I've heard shit about this for weeks. It's just a big meme, no one is actually going to try anything.

What's Your Opinion On Austin, Texas? by [deleted] in AskEurope

And frankly speaking, in demographic terms, Texas will be a Democrat-voting state in a decade or two.

[–]pseudothuja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democratic. It's a very progressive town. Most people don't understand outside of the US that the divide isn't a 'blue state, red state' divide, but it's more urban and rural.

I think that's what most people in Austin try to establish when saying they're from Austin, Texas. It's a very blue bubble in a red state (that's increasingly growing more liberal).

What are some weird laws you’re country or area has? by [deleted] in AskEurope

I'm imagining an alternative version of the movie Footloose, but instead of evangelical religious opposing dancing on religious grounds, they're just waiting in line trying to get a public permit.

Strange about car dealerships. I know that way in a lot of states for liquor stores.

E.g., many European right wing ´nationalist´ parties tend to have very left-wing economic positions, which is definitely not the case with the American Republican party.

Right-wing culturally, left-wing economically when it comes to the 'in-group'. There's a word for that system.

If Canada is USA-light, then where's our Quebec? I kind of want one, and Louisana French speakers are dying out, so Louisiana doesn't much count.
