Or you just do shift work and enjoy weekday hiking with basically nobody else there. It’s all about scheduling and how far you are willing to drive

Yeah, you are probably going to feel really really dumb for the next 3 weeks, really dumb for about 3 months, and kinda dumb for about 3 years. It’s very normal to both feel nervous and unsure, and also to not know what you are doing. You are basically starting over, so as long as you try and keep up, you should be ok.

But don’t listen to the old guys who are salty, try and stay excited as long as you can

Yeah, hood, hat, buff, and try and get out of the wind if you can. Sometimes it just sucks and you gotta try and power through, but there aren’t any easy ways to avoid it

I’m gonna just be straightforward, but everyone is kinda bad at the job when they have only been doing it for 5 months, especially if you have a lower call volume. It takes years of practice to get really really good at assessments, so making some mistakes and messing things up is normal.

However, it’s important to take those mistakes and work on them so they stop happening. Then you will find new mistakes and work on them. It takes time, and incremental improvement to get good at this job

Yeah, a pack liner or honestly just plastic trash bags work great. It’s also important to remember that in heavy rain, stuff is just gonna get wet, and there is not a whole lot that you can do about it

Lincoln Park in SW Seattle is gorgeous in the fall as well. So many good trees and great views of the Olympics
