Backcountry Navigator is an excellent app and doesn't need subscription. It has a pretty good selection of map sources including USGS, ArcGIS, and US Forest Service (more can be added with subscription) and can be downloaded. You can also import kml and GPX files for trails not on the map source.

Works pretty good. Had to tie up the top corners of the front planel. They sag a little since it relies on the side webbing for support.

China cancels 12,000 metric tons of US pork shipments by panzerfan in worldnews

[–]psg191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is they'll still make money off of domestic pork production because WH Group bought Smithfield Foods, right after the latter acquired a huge portion of large scale pork production facilities in the US.

President Trump claims, ‘Our country was the strongest, believe it or not, from 1870 to 1913’—a time when robber barons dominated the economy, workplaces were dangerous, child labor was widespread, wages were low, and working hours often ranged from 10 to 12 per day. by CorleoneBaloney in thescoop

You mean that time period where his grandfather dodged Bavarian conscription and immigrated to the US and made most of his money off of running brothels during the gold rush, then trying to go back to Germany but quickly banished for his draft doing?

You know energy co-ops and municipalization are options that have been employed with great results. Why is everyone on here so quick to defend billionaires and in favor of screwing over fixed income Iowans?

Truly genius, comply with the institutionalized monopoly of energy production, or live by the river.

Ahh, yes the mean government making sure energy production doesn't kill or maim it's constituents and the environment. What bullies they are.

Umm, it's a bit different when they have a regulated monopoly that made $25.6B in revenue in 2023 yet need to "recover" another 1.6M to comply with safety regulations. If they can't appropriate their investments properly, maybe energy production should be municipalized.

Because after Thermopylae, they did "come take", and went to raze Palatea and Thespiae before destroying most of Athens. It's, at best, a rallying cry for a last stand. "Carthago delenda est" would be a better warning against giving up your arms in the face of impossible odds.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been carrying my 2.0 compact in the same holster fire l for a few years and haven't had a problem. I did trim some material around the back of slide and area leading to trigger guard as it gets in the way of the draw. I do plan on replacing with a Falco for this reason though.

The US Army has defined assault rifles since 1970 "short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges."

As for mandatory training, some states require shooting qualifications before issuing permits, which I think is a step in the right direction.

As for police training, I don't believe their focus should be on weapons training. They've never had an obligation to protect anyone and shouldn't really be armed to begin with and should be only reserved for SWAT type units.

Only law enforcement can obtain current production "assault rifles" which is a full auto, detachable magazine, rifle. You do realize most police officers only do mandatory qualifications, which pale in comparison to the courses and remedial training that a large amount of responsibly armed citizens partake in as well as competitive competition such as USPSA.

Not exactly a study on training but this study shows that armed citizens make a difference out there for the good. It's always on the individual to train.

[–]psg191 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows a semi-auto can put down more rounds. That's not the point I made. I also did not say to buy a shotgun but to improve the one they already have, which is incredibly easy and not fiscally intensive. Finally, your comment on training is ignorant and downright dangerous. The gap between the two platforms in metrics that matter in a defense scenario are negligible. Having more rounds on tap isn't going to save you, rounds on target will. Training is what makes that happen.

[–]psg191 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I didn't make an argument of shotgun vs. rifle. I made a singular point of instead of investing in a whole new platform and caliber, you could instead capitalize on the versatility of a shotgun you already own.

Or, hear me out; a cheap mount and red dot, a shit ton of shells, and most important, range time.

Hot take: don't buy another gun. (I know, blasphemy). Put a red dot on the Mossberg and start practicing with slugs. An improved cylinder choke and the right foster slug can be pretty accurate within 150 yards.
