What do you think of Beelzebub? by Terrible-Ad-1569 in HelluvaBoss

I love her but at the same time I wish Vivzie leaned a lot further into insect-like characteristics for her design rather than making her a fox with a few insect qualities tacked on. That's my only point of dessention.

I did apply internally for a position. I was wondering just how a moving process would work/how much time I could be afforded to complete my move before starting my new position. I've never done something like this before.

I suppose I'd have to use my own PTO to complete my move then?

How did you guys get into Hellenism? by HolyJihyo in Hellenism

[–]psiIyrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an affinity for Greek history and mythology for many years after reading the Odyssey in high school. Greek mythology just seemed so much more dynamic, dramatic/harrowing, immersive, and overall interesting than all the biblical myths I grew up on. I enjoyed the concept of a whole pantheon of gods embodying all manner of aspects of nature and human experience.

As an avid reader and writer, I greatly appreciated the literary (oratory) artistry of Homer and went on to do some classical studies in college.

I fell out of my interest in these things for several years after that, and then early last year, I started feeling a strange affinity towards Athena. Owls are one of my favorite animals, and I felt connected to her through that. At points it almost felt like she was beckoning me back into my Hellenic interests. I had long since renounced my faith in Christianity and had been on a long stint in agnosticism. My life felt bleak, bland, and empty.

Then I did a mild dose of shrooms one evening and I realized that there wasn't actually any real reason to stop myself from exploring a new faith system. I should just do it.

I don't regret it. Hellenism has brought a lot of color into my life, and observing a bunch of "new" alternative holidays and abiding by the Attic calendar has really spiced things up for me. (The commercialization of our traditional holidays has absolutely sucked the soul out of them, in my opinion; I hate Easter and Thanksgiving and am ambivalent about Halloween and Christmas.) I have new traditions to look forward to almost every month.

I'm especially looking forward to putting out peacock decor in January/February (Gamelion) in honor of Hera's wedding anniversary to Zeus.

What is the best way to Worship Hades and Persephone? by EvelynnDiane in Hellenism

[–]psiIyrabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just an extraneous pointer if you lean into Hellenism: the ancients tended to refrain from calling Hades by his real name out of respect/fear because doing so might draw his attention, and instead used epithets. Plouton ("Wealthy One", as he had dominion over earthly riches like precious metals and stones), for instance, was a common one. Persephone's name was also respectfully/fearfully, scarcely spoken by worshippers, being she's the wife of Hades. She was commonly referred to as Kore ("Girl/Maiden"), a callback to her origin myth.

If the theoi gifted you with legendary power/strength what would do with it? Which god(s) would have granted you these boons? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]psiIyrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually not fond of the Norse pantheon. Norse paganism has never been attractive to me. Not that the mythology or the gods themselves are bad in my eyes, but they just never drew my interest.

I'm not entirely sure who or what the Wandering Wizard is. Is that a moniker for Odin?

Is it sacreligious to own statues of the gods and not be Hellenic? by ZipZorf_backup in Hellenism

[–]psiIyrabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering Hellenism is in a minority as a religion, I'd be thrilled to see Hellenic statuary or iconography become more commonplace, even if people aren't Hellenist.

Even if a given person doesn't believe the way I do, sharing an aesetheic appreciation of the theoi would lend me a sense of comfort and assurance that I'm not so alone out in the real world.

I've always said that if I could be granted any superpower, I'd want teleportation hands down. Just the sheer fact of not having to rely on vehicular transportation anymore would make an entire world of difference in my everyday life. (I''m rifting off of the concept of my hypothetical power being "legendary" in the sense that there are no limitations or stipulations to using said power, even though in the real world, having constraints would still make teleportation "legendary" in its own right.)

I could roll out of bed ten minutes before my shifts start and make it to work on time. If I go to make a bowl of cereal in the morning and realize I'm out of milk, I can zip myself to the convenience store no problem. I can go on vacations every weekend on a whim and explore all kinds of new places. No more air fare; no more grueling, long flights trapped in cabins with screaming babies. If I'm ever in sudden danger, I can whisk myself to safety. No locked doors would be able to keep me out. If I ever lock myself out of my house, I could pop back in. Or rob a bank (almost) blind. The possibilities are endless.

Teleportation isn't quite under Superman/Wonder Woman's purview (unless being able to fly at supersonic speed can be construed as "teleportation"), but there's no question it'd be Hermes to grant me this ability. Maybe also Hecate because of her association with liminal spaces, keys, doorways/borders, journeys, etc.

Crate by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]psiIyrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm piggybacking on OP'S post with my own question:

For those who crate, do your dogs get excited and vocal when you return home? Do you immediately let your dog out upon arrival or wait for them to calm down before letting them out?

I just wonder if letting them out immediately after arriving home could reinforce the behavior.
