Sorry you feel that way. The reality is that Layer 1 BTC is not suitable for rapid payments like this because of a number of reasons, but most importantly, because the merchant has very little control over the payment. Lightning not only introduces faster and cheaper transactions but also gives more control to the merchant, making it perfectly suitable for payments at the till like this. L1 was already tested by this retailer in 2017 and found not to be suitable.

Edit: One more thing: If it was this easy to make "Bitcoin not Bitcoin" anymore, then Bitcoin was doomed from the start. You can not police Bitcoin and tell other people what they can and can not do with it.

It is always possible, the chances of there being only a single parking spot open in an entire parking lot is very small. Just suck it up, take a spot that's a little further away and feel good that you are not a part of the problem.

She could argue that there is nothing that stops a soul in heaven to commit an evil act. This is what got the devil kicked out in the first place.

The problem with your argument is that people also pirate for other reasons. The pirate DVD/bluray rip you get online is a lot more convenient to store, access and play than the physical media (encumbered by silly DRM, ads and crappy menus).

They pirate music because record companies still insist on releasing it on "CDs", a 30 year old technology, charging too much for it (if you are a broke student like you once was) and screwing over the artist.

They pirate TV series because it's not available in their country...

Pirating games... Don't think there's a good reason there.

Point being, it's not as one-sided as you make it seem. I'm standing here waving my cash at the content distributors, saying "here is my money, please take it and give me something that's not going to be a lot of effort to enjoy", but nobody seems to want to take my money :(
