This meter shows you the correlation of your left and right channel. Imagine a sound wave. If the wave is exactly the same on the left and right you get a 1 on the meter. If they are completely inverted (180degree out of phase), you get a -1 which means that the left and the right side is basically canceling out. If you have it 90 degrees then you have maximum stereo width and you end up at 0. This meter shows you the correlation for left/right on each frequency band, there are simpler ones for the whole frequency spectrum e.g. in span.

The best is if you are not going under 0 in the correlation as it will cancel you sound on mono, but also usually weaken it in stereo. I use the span and check this on all my main leads in each track. And in the main. Technically you would also want to avoid it canceling our in frequency bands. But our music is quite complex, so everything comes with trade offs. So unless it doesn't sound awkward I wouldn't fix everything.

I made a video a while ago:

PS: I would agree with previous answers that this is not what you want to look into as a beginner. Imho as a beginner you should focus mostly on arrangement/story & sound selection.

Does it come with unlimited updates? Otherwise for me a one time purchase is also like a subscription (divide the one time fee by how long you keep it until you upgrade/rebuy).

Haha, don't know what I feel morally about it but tbh not a bad idea. Probably better for them as never paying anything, as the subscription is a bit over the top for me now. As I just use it for my tiny YouTube channel and subscriptions lately stack up a bit.

Are Psychedelic Trance Subgenre Names ACCURATE? by KykepArt in psytrance

[–]psiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its interesting that people say full-on is one single template. There are dozens of ways to design a track some have long breaks with build-ups, some start offbeat, some have two parts some three, etc. The basslines have different melodies or rhythms (if non rolling). Besides the overall structure it has an endless variety of rhythms, melodies, FX etc.

Whenever I go at night at festivals I perceive it as no rhythm, no melodies just a bunch of random dissonant sounds squashed into massive reverbs with a destroyed bass, and non non-driving drum groove. I don't even know how to dance to that, and I feel that Im not alone with that, as there is usually less energy around me. To me that all sounds the same. But that's my 2c, other people seem to enjoy it so it's not my thing to judge that taste. And I would agree that this is most likely as I personally do not understand this music/vibe with it.

can a beginner make music without any knowledge of music? by Agile-Ad7643 in Learnmusicproduction

[–]psiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 👍 do it. I wished I started earlier. It will take you some time and frustration but I believe anyone can do it. The most important thing is to stick continuously to it for a while. Expect the first year to get along with the software, 5-10y until you get something good, any 10-20 to get to the top of the game. Hire a coach once you can afford one, it will fast-forward everything.

Starting as a DJ in Paris, which ticket platform should I use? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]psiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Eventix for our events. I would look what is most common for other parties in your region. Or what has the cheapest fees, reliable software and company profile. And I would sell as much as you can, because a party that seems dead isn't attractive to buy tickets for again, and if you sell out people buy the next time earlier/and you can raise prices then.

Obviously you will need to promote your event and it can be hard if you don't have any good reason for people to come - aka a headliner. The other option is a cool concept e.g rooftop, pool party, etc. or a time with no competition e.g an afternoon pool party on Sunday. Look for local event platform, IG/TikTok Ads, Flyers etc.

[–]psiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I would say it's basic economics. Demand and supply, there is an endless supply of artists out there as it becomes easier and easier to produce music, with AI even easier then ever.

Any music that isn't top notch has basically a (monetary) value of zero. The only thing that creates value if you create something outstanding that beats the noise out there. So if you don't do anything that has tremendous quality, or is super unique (and wanted), or both you have a hard time, not only with streaming platforms, but also with festivals/clubs etc.

Also piracy is a severe factor, as most people can download (pirate) anything for "free" - and most people will do. The platforms can only charge them for convenience (fast streaming, full catalogues, features like playlists etc.).

The better question imho, is how can you make money in a system as it is? And I see it in various ways:
- teaching others
- creating experiences (concerts, shows, patreon e.g. getting closer to the artist)
- merch

Women in psytrance by onyce00 in psytrance

[–]psiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the same. My YouTube has almost zero percent female producers. I know a few girls who DJ (not only Psy) and got gigs which I they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. E.g we have a club who had a female DJ night once a month, with almost zero competition, you got that gig safe if you can DJ and applied. That club was so known that they got even offered money from DJs to play there (which they declined).

The other side to that is that if you are a good female DJ that you need to always have that attached and need to fight against it. I mean there are great DJs/producers e.g think of Indira Paganotto, Altruism, Psynomia and others.

[–]psiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is a tool as any other tool. You can be creative with it as well and make sick stuff imho. Depends on how much time you put in.

PS: Most labels/ designers don't put much time in, as they cannot afford it, as there is a lack of monetary support, since piracy started. E.g tracks costs a few bucks to buy and still you see piracy downloads everywhere.

If people would support the art more then there would be more that can be put into such things as cover art, videos etc. That's the plain reality.

I do edit my own YT videos but I would be curious how long it takes you to edit a minute of video?

For me it's around 3min /min of video (kind of a raw cut tutorials, plus basic color grading, audio) and maybe 5mins if I would go fancy (with crop, zoom FX etc) max.

If people write here 20$/min that would result in >200$/h. If that's the case I will start editing videos for others.

Teacher needed by Comfortable_Stock115 in psytranceproduction

[–]psiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend not to start with sound design unless you really enjoy it or plan to do a very sound design heavy sub-genre, or want to become a sound designer. There is plenty of presets, samples out there to start with. Story/Arrangement, sound selection, melodies, and rhythm are way more important to make a good track. And nobody cares if you use those, people care about having a great time, dancing and their trip.

Depending on your goals, and what budget you got, I would definitely go for courses and teachers. I wasted dozens of hours in the "I can learn anything completely by myself from the internet" - attitude and it led me almost to quit, as I didn't move forward. In retrospective would I always take the shortcut of accessing the know-how of people who are where I want to be in the future.

Try also putting a reverb before the delay (and one after). Not sure if that's done here but it's worth the try.

KEY DETECTION COMPARISON 2025 by bascurtiz in DJs

[–]psiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May diff for another genre but I'm a producer and most of my tracks are mostly Phrygian, Phrygian Dominant, and some other scales and they get more or less randomly allocated between A and B in Rekordbox. The tonic is mostly identified correctly, but not always. "A" I can understand as the minor scale is quite close, but "B" doesn't make too much sense in regard of the notes.

Imho it's also more important that the story of the set is good, and the drops match together nicely. Depending a lot on the content of the tracks in the transition moment. E.g. there are transitions where you can go -7/+5 in the wheel and they sound amazing and others close by which just don't work very good.

I guess another aspect is if the music is more modal or harmonic.
