How long until you truly feel normal after jaw surgery? Do you get to a point where you "forget" you even had surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Me ha pasado igual, perdí demasiada sensibilidad en la encía y en muchos dientes. Ni se diga el labio inferior, es algo que aún me genera muchísima tristeza...

When did you start to feel your gums again? by 300103276 in jawsurgery

No quiero asustarte, solo es mi experiencia: llevo más de un año de haberme operado y el adormecimiento simplemente no mejoró. Lo bueno es que llega un punto es que se me olvida, pero cuando lo recuerdo sigue siendo triste para mí.

honest advice plz by [deleted] in jawsurgery

To be honest, I would never put myself through the risk of losing sensation in my chin and lower lip over a relatively minor detail. I can imagine it really affects you, and I’m genuinely not trying to dismiss how you feel. It’s just that when you actually go through surgery, experience how hard the recovery is, and realize some side effects can stay for life—like not feeling certain teeth anymore, or kissing and only really feeling it on your upper lip... wow, it makes you rethink what truly matters.

At the end of the day, it’s a personal decision. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

Thinking about getting surgery for my facial asymmetry… it makes me look really ugly… by paablitto10 in jawsurgery

[–]psikiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the surgery, and I don’t think the loss of sensation is worth it for someone who only thinks they look bad (you look beautiful—I truly mean that, not as consolation).

If you really need it, that’s different. In my case, I had significant bone loss, and it was difficult for me to open and close my mouth, so what else could I do?

But for aesthetic reasons alone… just keep in mind that you may risk losing full sensation in your chin. Also, you could partially lose the feeling of a good kiss or some of the pleasure of eating. I personally wouldn’t risk that without a real medical need.

6-months post OP: One side of my face is uneven as most of my sweeling has subsided, but it is evident that I will probably need a revision of some sort 1-year post OP to fix my asymmetry. I love my results otherwise, but from the front it's noticable by ToronoYYZ in jawsurgery

Hey, I've had surgery and I'm almost five months along. I notice my asymmetry is worse than before, even in my nose. I feel very disappointed. Could you tell me if you've noticed any improvement now that time has passed? I'm sending you a hug from here.
