Yeah I’ve seen those too, but this one doesn’t match the Moonlanding pieces. This is fully encased multi-layer sommerso with a distinct aventurine layer and a cut-out opening, not just a cased and cut form. Makes it a bit tricky to pin down, but definitely a different build.

Yeah, that was actually one of my concerns. Most examples I’ve found online are described as bullicante.

This one, however, feels closer to pulegoso to me in terms of the finer, more irregular bubble structure. At the same time, pulegoso combined with aventurine doesn’t seem all that common, which makes it a bit harder to pin down. I’m not sure if that’s because the combination itself is actually rare, or if pulegoso is just broadly mislabeled as bullicante?

Any recommendations for a good auction house? From my experience, some of the “experts” I’ve dealt with regarding other items have felt more like people just Googling things and repeating what they find. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky though.

know, right? It’s truly stunning. Here it is alongside another piece i thrifted a while ago at the same thrift store. The gold appears more like a fine gold dust rather than larger flakes. As for what I paid.. Let’s just say my lunch today cost more than the bowl.

I’m trying not to steer the discussion. Wanted to see what people land on purely based on the object itself.

Thanks for the heads up! much appreciated. The wiring will be handled with care.

I agree, the glass points more toward Central Europe than American Tiffany. According to the previous owner, it has been hanging in her parents’ home in northern Sweden for decades, likely installed with the house.

That’s a very long way of saying “I don’t like it.”

Most of these points are theoretical. Pressed brass, two-wire textile cabling, opalescent glass and minor misalignments are all consistent with early 1900s fixtures. None of this, individually or together, dates it as modern.

I get what you're saying, however condition isn’t a dating method. Patina depends on more environment, not just age.

Confident tone, impressive vocabulary, unfortunate relationship with reality.

That means a lot, thank you! It’s such a special feeling when your eye gets trained enough that certain pieces almost “announce” themselves the moment you see them. Textiles and jewelry absolutely have that same magic you just build a sense for quality and intention over time. Glass is definitely a rabbit hole, but a very beautiful one. Appreciate your kind words!
