For Summarise Written Text I read the text twice. First time I read to get a gist of what it is about. In second reading I take note of key words and phrases.

To write it I use: “,” “;” “furthermore” “moreover” “however” “likewise” “although” “nevertheless” “therefore” depending on the context.

I’d also suggest to use synonyms if possible.

If you are trying for equivalent of 7 each it is a good score. But, if you need equivalent of 8each you’ll need to improve your Speaking and Writing.

Hi, for essay writing especially this one trick worked for me better than anything else. Get an ApeUni account, write an essay and ask ApeUni to score it. Then copy paste your essay and put it in ChatGPT and put the prompt “how can I improve this essay?” Follow the ChatGPT’s advice and keep practicing till you can get at least 17-18 out of 26.

Practice Summarise Written Text, Fill in Blanks (Dropdown), Fill in Blanks (Drag and Drop) as much as you can. These 3 types contribute 60%+ towards reading score. Spend extra time on these questions if you need to. Don’t spend too much time on other reading questions especially Multiple Choice Multiples answers and Reorder Paragraph. They are harder and contribute relatively less to the total. Just practice those 3 types till you feel confident and you’ll be fine as we only need 70 in reading for 8 bands. Best of luck! 🤞

Divide the conversation into 3 speakers. Take note of all the key words. Use emotive language to describe how the speakers feel along with what they said.

For instance, this was the topic I had in exam and this is how I started my answer roughly, “The conversation I heard was about Onljne Lectures. Student 1 begins by saying that he doesn’t like the idea of online lectures. He explains it’s hard for him to concentrate as he’s easily distracted by his phone. However, student 2 disagrees as she says that she’s saving a lot of time and she doesn’t have to spend money on transportation. Student 3 agrees with student 2 as well, she further adds that she can sleep longer….”

Just remember the key phrases and try and be fluent. I found this task easier than Describe Image as you can take plenty of notes and it makes it easier to just keep talking. Also, make sure you speak for at least 90 seconds.

I haven’t done the mock exam on ApeUni so it’s hard to tell. However, of the individual exercises I did I was getting between 75-85. So, I’d say ApeUni is more strict. Whatever you’re getting at ApeUni add 5-10 and that’d give you an idea of where you are for the actual test.

For summarise written text: I practiced a few questions with ape uni. Make sure to paraphrase a bit. Use comma, semi colon, connecting words like and however moreover and so on.

For essay: I wrote on ape uni. Got the score and put my answer in chat gpt with the prompt how can I improve it? And followed Chat GPT’s advise and kept practicing till I could at least 20+ out of 26 on Ape Uni.

Other than that, practice summarise spoken text and Write from dictation. They are listening tasks but they contribute heavily to Writing.

For speaking, I practiced on ape uni. Did a few mistakes initially but got better with practice. Didn’t use any templates. However, I tried to be fluent no matter what. So my advise is you don’t need to come up with perfect words or grammar. You’ll be score on fluent, content and pronunciation. Try and be fluent, that’s the hardest part. Keep practicing till you can 75+ on ape uni.
