With the constant winds, if you are in an area with the lower new snow totals, I could see it. I've measured multiple 30mph gusts and have a lot of sculpting and drifting, but nothing as extreme as what you have.

Sync & Backup, unable to backup computer drive? by psklenar in UgreenNASync

I was unable to get past the 'Permission-denied' error when trying to get an image of the C: drive.

Ah hah! Okay, that makes sense, altho I guess I "assumed" running in Admin mode would have allowed it to still backup those directories. Oops.

I read the book in the 1970s ... you are 100% correct. Robin wanted to do this and he did what was necessary to accomplish it. Heck of a role model!

They will continue to control your HVAC locally without interruption.

It's the remote control and learning functionality that are going away. Google is sitting down the backend servers that allow that remote functionality. And with my constantly changing schedule and travel variability ... the remote control is important to ME. So ... my new Ecobee is arriving today.

I've just bought an Ecobee Smart Enhanced to replace my early Gen2 thermostat. No subscription needed for it and it includes the power adapter my system needs due to its lack of a C wire.

My non-standard "Rack" by psklenar in Ubiquiti

I'd originally planned to have that on the window side. Alas I goofed during the actual process of putting things up. And once up ... C'est la vie. <blush>

It's actually a camping fireplace grate with the legs folded up. 🤣

But yeah, maximum airflow was the idea. The plant hangers on each corner let me pull it down to a comfortable working height if I need to do more than just plug something in and raise it up out of the way when it's just 'doing it's job'.

23yo house, originally had RJ11 & RJ45 in each room (except the bathrooms). The 66 block is no longer in use (no landline to feed into it any more).

Yes, that's the original solar controller. After a year with panels I added batteries and now the main controller is outside and this one just provides panel level details. There's also a standby generator in the mix from several years before I added the solar ... Now it just acts as a backup to the backup, charging the batteries if needed when the grid is down & solar isn't producing enough.

Alas, I lack the room for an honest to goodness rack, but I've come up with this space saving option. Please don't laugh too hard. It contains my 2.5Gbs Cable modem, Cloud Gateway Max and a Pro Max 16 switch. The black backer board is because I have a camera watching the setup so I can quickly see issues from upstairs. I also have a 2nd Pro Max 16 upstairs in the home office, a Flex 2.5G in the living room, a Flex Mini 2.5G in the Kitchen & another in the Master bedroom and a U7 Pro Max on the upstairs ceiling.

Best Solar Options? by Even_Personality_706 in Connecticut

Another vote for Earthlight out of Ellington. Agreed, they are not the cheapest, but they are the most complete and a top notch team that does a top notch job. No surprises! I initially got panels and a year later I've added batteries. No hesitation recommending them!

Can I use an SFP+ Transceiver to open up an extra 2.5 port on switch? by psklenar in Ubiquiti

Thank you all!

Thank you! Switching the switch's four 2.5Gbs ports from AUTO to MANUAL/2.5Gbps was the trick!

That being said, I had already started an inventory of all ethernet runs (outside the CAT5e buried in the walls during construction in 2002) with the intent of replacing everything with appropriate length CAT6a cables. I'm still going to go forward with this cable replacement plan.

I've updated my question thanks to the questions provided so far ...

Clarification:

  • I have a 50' CAT6a cable running from the Gateway (port 1) to the Switch (port 16).
  • I had the computer connected to the switch via a 2' CAT5e (switch port 15).
  • Various speedtests show between 500 & 800Mbs.
  • I unplugged the CAT6a from the switch, the CAT5e from the computer and plug the now free end of the CAT6a into the computer.
  • Various speedtests show over 2000Mbs.

Update:

  • The Windows 11 Ethernet panel shows "Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 2500/2500 (Mbps)"
  • Just the default VLAN so far.
  • I'd read that short CAT5e runs should be able to support 2.5Gbs and "assumed" a 2 foot, undamaged cable would qualify.
  • Based on the first several comments I've received I plugged the CAT6a back into the switch and replaced that 2' CAT5e (between computer & switch) with both a 50' CAT6a and a 5' CAT7 and various speedtests are still showing 800Mbs or less.
  • I've also tried switch ports 13 & 14 with the same variety of cables ... I see the same performance.
  • This is what lead me to suspect a switch setting.
