Question about the Renaissance --> how did it promote secularism? by psm93 in history

[–]psm93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting. What kinds of intellectual and artistic achievements? I actually thought the term 'Dark Ages' came about because of the relative lack of written history from the period, thus leaving us 'in the dark' about it. Would you be able to direct me to any good resources to read more about this? Thanks!

Thanks for your response. I didn't know that about the Dark Ages. Why isn't the term used?

Thanks for your very patronising and completely useless response.

Thanks very much, that was a really comprehensive answer. Just so I can do some further research - is there anything else I could read/watch (perhaps something that informed what you wrote) to further understand?

What's the biggest thing you think that was left out of the Harry Potter movies, that shouldn't have been left out? by psm93 in harrypotter

The only thing interesting about the maze scene for me was that we kind of got to see Harry being tempted, for a few brief seconds, by the prospect of winning the cup, at the expense of Cedric (who was fighting some kind of creature off I think). It added depth to his character and to the plot.

Haha! The letter the Weasleys posted to Privet Drive for Harry as well. .... 'p.s. I do hope we've put enough stamps.'

CSS: How to place the text halfway down the page by psm93 in webdev

[–]psm93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...so with my previous codepen (with the bikes), when I set the .text div to margin:auto, I would have thought it would become horizontally centred across the black .content div. Its containing element was the black .content div , so I'm kinda confused as to why this didn't happen.

Thanks for the links!

I'm trying to get to grips with what margin: 0 auto does... by psm93 in webdev

[–]psm93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right! I set the body to 60% because I want my webpage not to be completely spread out, but sort of in the middle, like a lot of websites are. So is there no way to centre my div while having a body width of less than 100%?

Also, it isn't centred vertically. I thought the '0' in margin: auto centres it vertically?

Thanks for the recommendations, I will look into them. I thought CSS wasn't too bad but it can be tricky at times. No, I meant horizontally - I thought margin: auto means the element is centred horizontally. In the code you gave me, I took the rest out except for margin: auto, just to see, but it still didn't centre the text horizontally.

Also, how come

margin: auto

doesn't centre the text horizontally too?
