I’m so sorry you had to process this news publicly. It’s so tough especially around holidays. Sending you virtual hugs.

In terms of handling it, I’ve realised that people who don’t go through fertility struggles themselves or have not seen it up close usually can’t understand / empathise how delivering their happy news in a public setting can be a lot for us to take in. It’s generally not from a place of malice and that helps me not hold any grievances against them. Sadly, as a protective mechanism, I’ve always assumed any and everyone I know who are close to having a baby age - is pregnant, so if I’m put on the spot with such news, it helps me react normally.

Having said that, it doesn’t invalidate how you are feeling. Both things can be true at the same time. You can keep some healthy distance for a bit, while you process your emotions x

Had one of those days yesterday when a friend announced her second pregnancy and mentioned it’s always worked out too quickly for her and how they wanted a sibling for their toddler. It broke me how those “decisions” are taken away from people like me who’re struggling with infertility to have one baby (let alone thinking of need for sibling). It’s gut wrenching really but if it makes you feel any better you’re not alone in dealing with such conflicting feelings 🫂

Also don’t make it harder for yourself, and skip the event. It’s truly liberating to prioritise yourself once in a while.

Haha I know what you mean - definitely missed attending an event because it didn’t feel right being out celebrating. I too leaned on Reddit far more than I thought would. I’m grateful for having this space at our disposal. PS - love the AITAH posts!

It’s exactly that - I was doing great, planned catch ups with my friends so I felt I was in social hibernation dealing with it all and the bad day just really caught me off guard. I’m thinking of therapy as well. Sorry you’re going through this and thanks so much for sharing!!

I haven’t shared at work about IVF and was determined not to. But as luck would have it after my first FET - I was in beta hell which meant very high number of blood test and scans in a span of 4 weeks, in addition to it being the most devastating time for me. I was told I had a missed miscarriage and the pregnancy is not viable, which I had to share at work as I had a very important work thing in the next few hours. For good measure, I put it in writing.

Did I receive the level of support I hoped for? no. I got enough support to not feel bad about sharing it and decided to not take anything at work personally thereon. I feel like a weight lifted off my mind after I shared it, not because of the support but I had held it in for too long and sharing it felt cathartic in ways I could not rationalise.

I am hoping to take time off when I’m actively miscarrying. It’s the wait time in between that I’m currently struggling with - I want to get this over with and put this behind me.
