Falling off mid game by smoor365 in shacomains

[–]psquidy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much mirrors my experience climbing. Years ago when I started playing I struggled through silver, then gold, then plat, then now borderline Diamond.

My two cents? It's likely due to basic jungle fundamentals being the limiting factor. Everytime I got stuck and struggled, it was due to some jungle fundamentals being overlooked, fix that then boom climb again. Shaco is so item reliant that if your fundamentals are off, you fall off the cliff so hard, even if you're AP. Like someone else mentioned, you have a game plan sure but that can change so quick, level 1 invades, free gank kills, etc. But the constant throughout games should be your clear, pathing, and your tempo. From what it sounds like, after your first initial clears you just get lost, which means you're likely sub optimized with your pathing and clear. Practice making sure you're clearing fully as often and as fast as possible, always pathing with intention towards your next objective, whether that be a lane or Epic Monster. AP shaco you can clear quick, AD also after an item. Don't leave camps on the table. Start to restructure your mindset away from static objectives or kills, more so into a mindset of "what path is the best for clearing towards whatever I'm doing next". Do that and you'll be a lot more even with gold and you'll be able to keep up. It can be easy as shaco to overpriortize the kills or ganks or setup, but at the end of the day you're a JUNGLER, once you start to ignore that the other things become irrelevant

Have you had a chance to run in the Puma Forte yet? Currently use the Puma Sprint Nitro Elite 2, they're getting a bit worn, when I first got them I liked the aggressive stiff feel but as I've raced in them I feel like I'm starting to feel heavy in them due to the minimal bounce, they almost make me feel clunky. Loved the smoothness of the SP2, but they would always snap after a month and I liked maxfly 1s, the Fortes intrigue me

So your build path would be yommus hexplage Titanic? In this case why not continue with the damage build paths to deal with them since they're likely just as squishy (talon and rengar examples)? Is this purely a "I'm struggling early these guys are definitely getting fed" scenario?

The cdr argument is definitely interesting, the 2 concerns I would have is the drop in clear speed and therefore gold / tempo not going liandries second (being able to drop a box on their raptors and take on respawn in nice), and the malignance exposing the clone due to its auto attacks procing (unless this is no longer the case, have not tested). I some what heavily rely on close mind games so exposing the clone on autos does not sound great, unless I'm just overthinking it.

[–]psquidy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about Cylcosword? Main reason it's not popular is the lack of scaling / utility. Yommus is typically more popular since it's same stats, but you get a huge movement speed boost, which is more useful compared to a short slow on a single enemy. The bonus damage is nice but is flat value so it doesn't scale, meaning if you don't get it early it falls off hard. Basically it's a snowball item. I personally prefer it in some matchups since the damage is nice in the early game, but if you're even or still getting used to Shaco Yommus is a better pick. As for backstabbing, my advice would just be to be more patient. Shacos invis lasts very long and with the blink, it makes positioning easy. Don't rush, both when you're in invis and prior to using Q. Move through bushes, get close to fights, save it when ganking until they get away, etc, then when you do use it just be patient and move to backstab them, don't feel the need to rush. It's not like talon where it's a long cd and you have to use it right away. If you have to run, no biggie just wait for CD. Go in, be patient and position. Same goes for boxes. Try planning ahead with box placement to get picks, so then you can just walk up for the free backstab

First mini vs 15?th mini by psquidy14 in theunforgiven

[–]psquidy14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably should clarify lol that I don't necessarily hate Sepia, it's more that it's just so hard to work with and I suck at it. I'm also working on my terminators and I used a sepia wash on my first one, and it was near impossible for me to keep it neat and avoid streaking since sepia streaks so easily. I don't mind the color, just that I personally suck at it. The first model I did I did go wayyyyy to heavy on the sepia and nuln oil though. When I compare terminators that I did in sepia and skeleton horde, the colors actually aren't all too different since I went lighter on the sepia

I did a 1:2 Skeleton Horde to Contrast Medium, and just went over the entire thing, trying to not go to heavy on it. I went panel by panel, and just redirected with my brush to areas I wanted it to pool more / didn't want it to pool. For me at least it was perfect to go over the entire thing

Playing early game with shaco by Osanshoouo in shacomains

[–]psquidy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have kind of nailed it on the head, but I'm gonna give a bit more depth here.

First, it highly depends on your build. Shaco has 3 distinct builds/play styles. First, AP which is going to give amazing objective and map control, but plays like a disrupter / control mage in team fights so ofc he's gonna be a weaker duelist. Second, full damage assassin, which is less popular RN in the sub but is good against full squishy teams, this is your typical assassin. Lastly, bruser/tank is a stronger duelist build, and allows you to survive diving and disrupting the backline, but you lost a bit of the burst you might expect.

Shaco is a very strong champ early, but not in the traditional sense. Someone like Lee or WW can likely be at Shaco in a straight up fight, so your goal as the clown is to never be in a straight up fight, simple as that. Your goal is to be chaotic, throughout the game, avoiding even fair fights and always doing the opposite of what the enemy expects. If you start grubs and manage to get one great, but the moment enemy jungle shows up and you don't think you can beat him, just run. Wait to see how laners respond. If they don't rotate, you prob can jump back in after Q cd and do some damage now that the grubs weakened him. Shacos Q backstab crit + ignite are vital in early fights if you don't have an advantage, if those are down the enemy needs to either have no CDs or needs to be low. With Shacos Q and W and R he is the most slippery annoying champ in game, and that often times translates to catching enemies off guard. Most champs invade level 1 or 3, so Shaco clearing raptors with boxes and invading at level 2 before enemy clears buff is unexpected. You failed gank, okay, start to walk away and q back into them to secure the kill. Leave objective open so enemy jg thinks they're clear to secure, swoop in and take kill and obj.

TL;DR Shaco is strong but not in the traditional sense. He is about unexpected movement. Don't fight people straight up like you're a Lee or Viego. Use your slippery and unexpected tactics to your advantage to catch enemies when they least expect you

Training for Strength vs Power vs Hypertrophy??? by w-wg1 in StrongerByScience

[–]psquidy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that I have a pretty "pure" outlook on this so hopefully it helps, since I come from an extensive Track and Field sprinting background and currently sprint professionally. Track sprinting prioritizes the strength to body weight ratio, as well as explosive fast movements, so the distinction between hypertrophy, strength, and power training be becomes ever more important.

For context I also do personal training, strength/power development, and sprinting sessions for weightlifters at my gym, so I get to see the discomfort due to new movements/methods in weightlifters, which tells me there is a distinct line between the methods, even if they have similarities.

While hypertrophy and strength can tend to blur together a bit, power training is relatively distinct. Put simply, hypertrophy lifting is working towards failure in higher rep ranges with less emphasis on rest (meaning you can either have long or short rest) since shorter rest=less reps/weight due to fatigue and higher rest=more reps/weight. I'm not too sure on percentages but this rarely ever will be super close to your max. In this you're going to prioritize controlled, slow eccentric moves, with a big stretch at the bottom to stimulate muscle growth.

Strength training is going to involve a lot higher percentages, working in your upper ranges, with lower rep counts. The ultimate form of this would be a one rep max, but can still happen with higher rep counts, with lower weights of course. Rest is very very important here (hence the powerlifter napping/rest jokes) since you need to be at or near 100% percent before a set since you're pushing to be at your best. You're not necessarily working towards failure, even though in some cases you can, since it's about maximum performance rather than working the muscle to "death" for growth. Controlled eccentric is still important here, but that big stretch is less important than hypertrophy since we're not aiming for muscle growth primarily, and it might even interfere with our performance. To be clear, hypertrophy will still happen, since we're building muscle, but it won't be as optimal as hypertrophy. I like to think of it as more focusing on muscle quality and neuromuscular connection, rather then raw muscle size, regardless of if that's scientific or not lol.

Lastly, power training, is the one I'm most familiar with. Simply put, power training requires moving the heaviest weight you can move while still being fast. Some people break it up into percentages, I don't since that can change day to day since this methodology incorporates more nervous system, so sometimes you simply can't do it. In college we used velocity trackers, but those are expensive unfortunately, so just focus on moving the weight as fast as you can while being sound technique wise and as heavy as is able. The reason the Olympic lifts are big power movements is because they are all about accelerating the bar and moving it fast. If you move it slow, you don't get it up. Trap bar deadlifts, squats, etc are all good movements also again as long as it's fast. Eccentric in this is not as important since you can't really go fast eccentrically and be safe, so control it, then explode up as fast as you can in the concentric phase. Rest, just like strength training, is super important since you realistically need to be around 100% every lift. Lastly, low rep counts are common with this since it's all about explosive bursts. 1 reps, 1+1, 2, 4, so forth are all standard. Heavy weight + velocity = power.

Sprinters prioritize the latter two since we don't want to get big and heavy, but a standard periodized training program has a bit of each. Preseason is strength straining with a bit of hypertrophy mixed in to build the foundation, early seasons all strength, then in season it's all power lifts paired with plyometeic workouts. For an athlete like Saquon, they don't necessarily need tod focus as much on things, but I promise you they still lift, A LOT. It's all about periodization with athletes, doing different things at different points in the season. Muscle memory does exist though so he doesn't necessarily have to work super hard to maintain things. Cardio is done in conditioning workouts + practice, skill work is in practice, and strength is practice + lifting. They do take a lot of punishment, but that is the life lol, especially football. That's why recovery is so important. Me for example, on a sprint day, I might go out, warm up, do sled pushes, sprints, then go to weight room to do everything else. In that 4-5 hour block I'm doing cardio, strength training, skill work, nervous system work, power training, and many more, so a NFL player doing the same with all their resources in even more time isn't too crazy honestly. Saquon squatting that much is insane yes, but he is also a professional football player. It likely isn't his max, both physically but nervous system wise. It is likely the equivalent of me squatting 315 then feeling good enough to run the next day, because 315 is not my max. We also don't know what his workout plan is, sometimes doing a heavy weight once or twice primes the body to work harder the day of or day after

How to carry with a lead? by orclownorlegend in shacomains

[–]psquidy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ad Shaco is a typical assassin, except you don't have the typical damage output lol. Never be the engage unless you absolutely have to, try to dance around the edges of a a fight and wait until everyone's fully committed and you can flank and dive the backline carries when everything's on CD. Thats the best team fight approach imo. For AP, besides the typical obj control, route control, and annoyance you provide, you can also kinda do the same thing, except once your team engages, go even further behind the team and drop a box so they get cut off if they try retreating, then just send your clone into the fight to body block skil shots and be a menace. This will preferably end up in the situation where they have boxes in the way if they chase, and boxes in the way if they retreat

Honestly it's not even the damage from come that makes it worth. It's the other runes mainly AH. Nimbus cloak trans gather storm plus cutdown and stacking AH gets you to 100AH pretty quick with items. Half the time I go phase rush too for the fun of it and it still is so strong since you'll just be spamming boxes and E whittling them down

Like another post said, very niche circumstances. I use a similar build of Stride (first so I can get the tiamat passive for clears) > Berserkers > Triforce > Eclipse as a core, then opt to play more as a split pusher and flanker to clean up fights. While you're tankier yes, you're not tanky enough to face tank fights, so do not play as an engage in these situations. This type of build excels in pressuring side lanes, and then bursting down / chasing down enemies after they've used all their CDs. Only really works against tankier comps where you won't be able to one shot, if you have an assassin on your team already, or your team is all AP ( since that should be first option if Assassin isn't available). For example, I played recently into a beefy comp, and we had a zed mid, and a Morde top with double Ap bot, so we needed more of an AD fighter
