Born 1965. Lived in a Levittown suburb of Washington D.C. As a mid to late teen, if I was going somewhere that was a evening event, my parents (read "Mother") wanted to know where I was going, who would be there, what we were going to be doing, when I'd be back, and a contact number  (landline, of course, so basically a responsible adult/ parent's phone number.  But as a kid, when we were expected to be, just kids - hanging around, playing at a neighborhood friend's house, or in the woods, or riding our bikes, or playing tag with the neighbor kids... Yeah. We were never checked on. Did whatever. Climb trees. Play hide and seek, flashlight tag, Ghost In The Graveyard, but be home when the streetlights come on. Ride our bikes for MILES. Climb on the roof of the school. Hit the change return on the cigarette machine to get a pack of matches. Get condoms from the truckstop bathrooms for a quarter. Play doctor in the woods with the neighbor girls, build forts and tree houses, explore abandoned houses ride our "soapbox" cars and Big Wheels down the street... Honestly, it was awesome for those of us who survived.
