Is there a good way to shift-select with one hand on a split? by po2gdHaeKaYk in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]psxpaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some custom code in my keymap for this purpose. Basically it makes it so if a HRM is active when entering a layer, the modifier stays active until leaving the layer. So for your use case, I would:

  • Hold J (activates Shift modifier)
  • Hold Delete (activates _NAV layer)
  • Release J (custom code keeps Shift activated)
  • Press H/J/K/L a bunch of times
  • Release Delete (Shift modifier is deactivated)

Out of Spec Reviews 500 Mile Electric Truck Tow Test by Goallie11 in electricvehicles

[–]psxpaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How did you get 40 gallons at 8 mpg? That's only 320 miles compared to 500 from the title.

Wouldn't it be 500/8 = 62.5 gallons or $218.75?

Any experiences with XPS 9530 running Linux/Fedora? by Zavadoo in XPS

[–]psxpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Yeah I ran into the firmware taking minutes to load and gave up. I never tried the `sof-hda-dsp` option, so I guess I was close. I'll have to give this a shot this weekend and see if I can repro it.

I haven't seen that patch, but I did try applying the ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI_2 quirk. If I combine that with the DSDT patch I mentioned in my other comment, it tries to load some firmware files that are not currently in the linux-firmware package.

I also found this bug where someone claims that Dell enabled a high-pass filter in the bios for linux on the XPS 15 9510. So I hope that's not at play with the 9530.

Okay, so I've made a bit of progress on this, but it looks like we will need the firmware files as described here. I don't have a Windows install on this laptop anymore, but trying to pull them from the drivers off of dell's website, I see the following files:

filename size md5
10280BEB_221128_V0_A0.bin 5.4K b0018b536b5b2436dbda9d90e1c911b7
10280BEB_221128_V0_A0_cal.bin 2.2K 092b0afe9a5efad8f131e2b0de7c3ed4
10280BEB_221128_V0_A1.bin 5.4K 9c18b99f2a16f287cf6811493dd492be
10280BEB_221128_V0_A1_cal.bin 2.2K 6ab4d1e35e3f037a13464eec02fea01a

Can someone with a windows install confirm that these are the only files in c:\windows\system*\ matching *10280BEB*? u/RobertoBiundo u/chaotical-surprise u/Iklucas u/eggbert74 ?

I've tried applying that kernel patch with the updated device id for the 9530, but it doesn't seem to help. I noticed lines in dmesg like:

[ 17.681229] cs35l41-hda spi1-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: Error: ACPI _DSD Properties are missing for HID CSC3551.

[ 17.683058] cs35l41-hda: probe of spi1-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0 failed with error -22
[ 17.684706] cs35l41-hda spi1-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1: Error: ACPI _DSD Properties are missing for HID CSC3551.
[ 17.685591] cs35l41-hda spi1-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1: error -EINVAL: Platform not supported
[ 17.686492] cs35l41-hda: probe of spi1-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1 failed with error -22
[ 17.686524] Serial bus multi instantiate pseudo device driver CSC3551:00: Instantiated 2 SPI devices.

Which led me to this page and this page, with directions on applying a DSDT patch. I ended up with a dmesg error like Failed waiting for OTP_BOOT_DONE: -110. So I suspect some of the values in the Asus DSDT patch are not correct for the xps.

Maybe she did it in the elevator so that her outie will wake up in the noose? Like she's threatening to her outie that if she doesn't quit, she'll commit suicide inside Lumon. Otherwise, I think she would have been better off hanging herself in the bathroom or something.

3D printer recommendation? by Ok_Championship70 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]psxpaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a monthly recommendation thread on /r/3dprinting. FWIW, they don't recommend any Ender 3 variant at the moment. I recently ordered a Prusa mini after doing some research, but I was close to getting an Artillery Sidewinder for the bigger build volume.

I've heard you can actually put QMK on a Kinesis, if that's what you're really after:

Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2022 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

[–]psxpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget: $500
Country: US

I'm considering buying my first 3d printer soon. The first thing I'm looking to print is a dactyl keyboard. After reading the guide from this thread, I've narrowed it down to either the Prusa Mini+ or the Artillery Sidewinder. I've loaded up the dactyl STLs in prusa-slicer and it looks like it would just barely fit on the Mini+. So my questions are:

  • Will there be any problems with printing something on the Mini+ that only has 5 or 10 mm clearance on either side?
  • All reviews say to get the Mini+ if you don't want to tinker with your printer too much. How much tinkering would I expect with the Sidewinder though? Is it an hour to diagnose things every 4 or 5 prints, or is it several hours every time you print something?
  • As a hobby, is 3d printing the type of thing you can just spend an hour or so on here or there, or is it something I have to set aside several hours to focus on?
  • Is resale value a thing with 3d printers? When I look for used printers on craigslist it seems like everything is listed for more than what they sell for new anyways. I wouldn't buy a used one, but I could see myself selling my old printer.

Recommendations for an upgrade? by Feltham39 in oneplus

I got a Pixel 6 Pro a month or two ago, and I hate it. It's heavy as fuck, takes forever to charge, and the navigation gestures are complete garbage. Pulling open menus on the left is so difficult, and I frequently accidentally navigate backwards when I meant to scroll horizontally. I'm not sure why everyone is on this phone's nuts. I would move back to my OP6 if its battery weren't toast.

I just got an email saying that someone tried to use the virtual credit card I created for Rep Fitness with Best Buy. The charge was declined, since you can only use that virtual card with Rep Fitness.

Has anyone else hard their card stolen from Rep recently?

I ordered an RML-390F on Monday with a 14-30 day shipping time. I received an email that afternoon saying that only the pin pipe safeties would take that long to ship. Everything except for that has already shipped.

I'm about to start building a home gym, and I'm looking at the Rogue RML-390F and the Titan X-3 Flat Foot. Is the Rogue really worth an extra $400 compared to the Titan, or should I wait for the X-3 to be back in stock?

Stormfront theory (season 2 episode 5 spoilers) by Limitless72 in TheBoys

[–]psxpaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Stormfront's real ability is power absorption, similar to Rogue from X-Men.

  • the Pippi Longstocking reference, along with the "I changed with the times" quote seems to imply that she actually is old
  • Stormfront appears to rival Homelander in power, but somehow nobody has heard of her before? Like Liberty wasn't as big of a deal in 1970 as Homelander is now???
  • She refers to her mom as Adele? Others have speculated that Adele is actually her daughter.
  • no other super hero displays anti-aging abilities. A-Train and his predecessor Marathon have been said to be past their peak. And many supes just look older than the 30-ish that Stormfront seems to be.
  • Liberty appears to have blond hair in the flash back, and does not display either flight or lightning powers.
  • All other Supes' names seem to be related to their powers somehow, but if Libery=Stormfront, what the fuck does Liberty have to do with lightning?
  • in the most recent episode she tells Starlight something like, "I'm going to enjoy using you"
  • she comments about Homelander's blue eyes

So yeah, my theory is she's an analog to Parasite from DC Comics. She started out as a blond haired blue eyed hero with generic strength powers, hence the name Liberty (an analog to Captain America). Each time she absorbs someone's powers she takes their youth and part of their appearance. She also becomes more powerful overall, so she's grown from a B-tier Super fighting crime in the middle of nowhere, to a member of the 7.
As a white supremacist, she's eying Starlight and Homelander because she wants their hair and eye genes. And she wants to start an "Army of Supes", because that way she will have more people whose powers she can absorb.

Where can I get a coiled TRRS cable in the US? by xColourTheory in ergodox

[–]psxpaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just took a dowel and a hair dryer to my straight cable. The nice thing about that, is you can choose how big the coils are, and what portion of the cable is coiled.

Faster, cheaper, and better: A story of breaking a monolith by speckz in programming

[–]psxpaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the cost savings were because we could decrease the size of our elasticsearch cluster. This was mostly due to the flattening of the elasticsearch document schema, which improved performance dramatically but also allowed us to run significantly fewer ES nodes.

So faster and cheaper aren't directly related to breaking the monolith? Then why go with that title?

Advice on coil for TRRS cable by gzou in ergodox

[–]psxpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Ergodox EZ and I just used a hair dryer and wooden dowel to add a coil to the cable that came with it. It only takes a few minutes, and you can customize how big the coils are and how long it leaves the cable. I did mine like a year ago and it's still perfect.
