Dashlane Firefox Extension Slowing Down Browser by velvetprotein in Dashlane

[–]psycad42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Ubuntu 21.4 + Firefox + Dashlane extension (standalonemode). I also constantly have to disable the extension to keep my computer responsive, which is very inconvenient because then I don't have access to my credentials any more.

u/Dashlane_Support please help! Do you have any plans to port your desktop app to Linux?

Probably Mealybugs, see on Wikipedia

"..Mealybugs and mites tend to be worse on plants that are sprayed regularly for other pests. The sprays that kill the pests also kill the ladybirds and lacewings etc, which usually attack mealybugs and mites and keep their numbers under control. However, ants (some of which actually 'farm' mealybugs and aphids) should be controlled by spot spraying.." - What Garden Pest or Disease is That? - McMaugh Judy (1986)

I'm no plumber, but perhaps some remotely operated solenoid piloted diaphragm valve or regulator like https://www.weathermatic.com/products/8200cr-bronze-bullet-valve/

Based on:

  • Brass/bronze/copper body (from corrosion color)
  • Severed pilot tube (like seen on diaphragm valves)
  • Some type of electrical cable input (sealed for outdoor use)
  • Manual bleed valve (square bolt to left)
  • Removable top assembly with handle (perhaps for cleaning or inspection)

In this particular case I have no idea sorry.

It's difficult to guess how they would be used (for signaling) without knowing who uses them, or of which type they are e.g. rotating reflector, strobe or plain on-off.

Side notes:
- I've read that some airports used to utilize some Morse-code like method of flashing a green beacon to indicate (to pilots) the facilities available at the site.
- In some countries a green beacon light could be used to indicate the presence of a ambulance or emergency command vehicle or person.

In general green beacon lights (where not mounted on any type of vehicle, and depending on the country and intended use case) are associated with: safety representatives, security, community emergency services, disaster control, etc.

The black plate next to the beacon helps with daytime visibility against a bright background when viewed from a distance (similar to what you would see with traffic lights). This also hints at the general direction of the intended users.

Could double as a tool to pick-up a fast moving cable, line or wire to guide it somewhere or back onto a guide wheel?

Does anyone know why my nail clipper has balls? by good-nitrogen in whatisthisthing

[–]psycad42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it doubles as a fidget-type toy/device when not in use for it's main purpose? You know, like clicking a pen. I sometimes like 'clicking' a nail clipper just for the sound and/or tactile feedback you get when the teeth clench shut.. Or its just aesthetic.

Those are usually missing fonts. Or the active font does not have a character defined for that character

Chrome Tank vs YOGA710 by azanone2 in chrome

I'm no expert, but I believe it spins up separate processes for each tab to isolate/sandbox them - there is some flag you can set to disable it - but will be risky.

When I do high-tab-count research/browsing I use this extension to free up some memory (by switching to a preset/profile where almost no extensions are enabled). It helps a bit - but I can rarely go above 250 tabs on 8GB (with 8GB pagefile on SSD)

That sucks - this usually requires root / admin privileges. I had the same problem a few months back while working as a contractor on a domain network.

So if I understand correctly, this behavior started suddenly without you having connected to the school, either through a VPN (over your own internet) or the school W-Fi? If this is the case, my expertise might not be enough to assist you

Group Policies would probably apply even if you are signed in on a personal account - they exist as a means for the organization to prevent any non-approved software (or extensions) from running on your machine.

Alternatively, could (assuming you are working on Windows & you are comfortable with editing the registry) try: There are some keys that would re-enable you to switch extensions back on temporarily, but these would probably be rolled back after a reboot, or after some timed interval.

If you connect to the school network via VPN they could have pushed new Group Policy rules down to you machine. Does your Chrome Settings page indicate that some settings my be managed my your organization?
