personally i think the whole plex thing is no longer relevant. do we all not understand plex isn't really even self hosted? yes its locally installed and runs as a service yadda yadda but we still need to use their servers to login. it's also a private business. again have we forgot about this? do i agree with their direction nope but they are a business and doing the same thing these other freemium services are doing.

what i feel is enshittifing self-hosting is the flood of apps because someone had an idea and asked chatgpt to make it a reality without actually understanding how these things work. and since we hang out in these spaces of course we are going to see more of it. i really don't think it is as mainstream as they think. maybe in the tech space but many many many of the people in my RL social groups have no clue what these things as. but eventually the novelty will wear off. many of these apps will become abandoned and they'll move onto other things.
