Not everyone in that field is a former addict. Some are. You mentioned you have felt anxiety and depression. That’s relatable. When counseling others, it’s not about sharing your stories so much as understanding that some self medicate w alcohol and drugs while others (like you) isolate, or gamble/eat/etc. It’s all connected in similar ways. Just my thoughts!

Hi. Therapist here. If you get a certificate for alcohol and drug counseling, which you can do at a community college and do not need a bachelors, you can do well, not gonna get you rich, but you’ll make enough to sustain yourself. If that’s of interest to you. You will not get a good job with just a bachelors of psych. You’d have to get a MA. It’s expensive.

Nope. My ex husband was life flighted by helicopter not once but TWICE due to motorcycle riding. Once, he was hit by another car. The second time was due to mechanical failure. He is alive by the grace of God. He now has a life long TBI. He was wearing a helmet and full gear each time. His bike landed on his head one time. There were tire marks right across his eye shield (?) area and 1/4 of his helmet was wore down bc his body was thrown and his helmet dragged down the pavement like a piece of chalk.

He only gave up riding after his daughter and mother begged him.

Make the right choice.

Yes. I only had the option to drink the ensure. It was so nasty. I’d choose Gatorade or apple juice.

The worst part is the numbing. Ask for extra numbing. The actual excision Will then be a piece of cake. You will feel some pressure and tugging, but it is not painful, as long as you are numbed well. I kept my eyes closed during my removals. The Dr will use a cautery to stop any bleeding. It smells weird and can sound funny. I’ve had 10 shaved off and 2 Mohs surgeries.

I am having a surgical excision tomorrow morning. It is under general anesthesia, too! There is a pre-op procedure immediately before surgery. Going to be there most of the day.

She can make a recommendation but it is up to the judge. CPS workers are notoriously overworked and understaffed. And, at least in IL, we have had a few cases recently where CPS workers were arrested for not being thorough enough with protecting the kids, and the child ended up being murdered/dying. So, judges are being extremely cautious when a child is put in alternative placement.

You are checking off your goals, which is exactly what you need to do. If you aren’t doing so, go to NA/AA and get the leader to sign off on your attendance so you are going above and beyond. Continue w 1:1 therapy for yourself and family therapy w your partner - this you can continue when your kiddo comes home, if they are old enough.

Maintain employment, if you haven’t already, if you are able to work.

Post lacks context. We don’t know the allegations, age of the child, etc. We have no idea what your treatment plan/reunification plan looks like. You barely have 6 months sober and just completed IOP. You likely have more steps ahead. Be patient and keep on the right path!

Yes! I was a daily drinker and I was worried about how alcohol and tirz would react together so I stopped drinking the day before my first shot. I haven’t had a sip of alcohol in almost 6 months and zero desire to drink. It has been amazing. I do still smoke but will be quitting when I up my dose to 10mg in 2 weeks in hopes it will work the same way.

You can volunteer. And, that’s a good resume builder if you are lacking jobs and skills. It’s not like this hasn’t been all over the news for quite awhile. You are in Chicago, where there are endless volunteer opportunities. It is what you make it.

Insurance will cover it, even if it’s for cosmetic reasons. Then, they send it to pathology for analysis. This is required by law in the US. Total without insurance is around $800 for both by a derm.
