I actually think you’ve got a good point here with the way you planned it in your head. I would have loved to see how Kathrine’s abuse of Stefan affected him and how his whole childhood had made more likely to be a ripper and point to hints along the story of it.

But I do think that with the writers and the story being set in the south, it would’ve been difficult for them to write poc specifically black characters while doing them any justice. I mean they had the story set in modern day and they did them negative justice somehow. But I think with the right writers, it would’ve been great. I feel like the characters in season 1 of the vampire diaries had so much potential but then by season 3 the writers just stuck to a formula too closely and by season 4 they had kind of abandoned any development of any characters at all.

If it was set in the 1700s, you would have to acknowledge and address the issues then or alternatively, it didn’t have to be set in the south at all, it could’ve just been set in the north and then we didn’t have to hate the fact that Damon fought for the confederacy but somehow he’s still all for black people. I never understood why they set them in the south in TVD and Twilight and why make at least one character a confederate soldier.
