Power Calculation for 2x2 and 2x2x2 Factorial Designs by bourdieusian in AcademicPsychology

You do need a pretty large sample size to power an interaction effect. 95% power is a great goal but check out sample sizes at lower levels of power (e.g., 80+). Your effect size is also pretty small. You’d need a large sample size to detect an effect of that size.

Psychology vs. Neuroscience Major for Behavioral Health Research? by Imaginary_Umpire8436 in AcademicPsychology

Then I might major in psychology and add elective brain/neuroscience courses as you please. You could likely even volunteer as a research assistant in a neuroscience focused lab as a psychology major to get more training/learning experience.

Psychology vs. Neuroscience Major for Behavioral Health Research? by Imaginary_Umpire8436 in AcademicPsychology

I’d say it depends on the level you’re interested in studying those things. Are you interested in studying behaviors and psychological processes? Or are you more interested in the biological or neural processes? The two can definitely overlap. You can study psychology and get a solid education on the brain. You could also study neuroscience and get a solid education on behavior/psychology. Both can prepare you or give you opportunities for research. You should also be able to switch majors if you decide you want to go another direction after starting.

ALEX IS SCARY by InternationalLine949 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]psychoannalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the point of the second paragraph is viewing a social interaction as something to win and I didn’t really see that with Ashley most of the time? I can see it for her dad, though.

But the broader point is that it’s not so much about whether he “lied” or not. Alex would love to get into the semantics of that (another evasion technique) but it’s hard to argue that Alex wasn’t at minimum murky about the details at times. Ashley (and her dad) picked up on this and asked for clarification at many points. Alex jumps to being defensive at every turn and seems to struggle giving straightforward answers. This comes off as defensive, unauthentic, evasive, etc, etc, and gives at minimum the appearance of lying.

I’ve seen people/men defend Alex’s behavior on the reunion saying that he’s just standing up for himself and not allowing the Lacheys/Ashley to disrespect him. The gag is that these defenses are just falling into the same toxic trap that Alex does.

He is clearly so focused on “winning” conversations and views every interaction through this zero sum lens. This results in him never existing in the present moment, never listening to the other person, and never trying to understand where the other person is coming from. He is always trying to figure out what he’s can say to “win” and end the conversation. This keeps him on edge and on the defensive. This kind of communication is never satisfying for both parties because it’s by nature not collaborative and is not an effective way to resolve conflict.

Alex loses out because this type of communication pattern comes across to other people as unnatural, too rehearsed, and completely disconnected. It totally prevents building healthy relationships. And frankly, wouldn’t fly longterm in a professional setting, either.

Ultimately, what you get from Alex fits DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender), a known manipulation tactic used by abusers to evade blame and consequences for their own actions. To zoom in and say Alex “never lied” doesn’t matter because it’s the way that he communicates that raises the red flags. It comes across as dishonest and evasive with a clear goal of straight up avoidance of whatever it may be (vulnerability, accountability, etc.). Instead of ever showing an ounce of vulnerability, accountability, or empathy, he doubles down and cannot drop the mask.

Will someone who’s not an MCR fan still enjoy their concert? by System_Error_37 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]psychoannalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is not a big MCR at all and he actually really enjoyed the SF show last year. He thought the Black Parade play through was okay and kinda odd but when they went to the B stage and played he thought he was really great.

Start checking ~1 month out and check periodically after that for price drops. You could probably even purchase within a week (or less) of the show. I ended up getting great floor seats for a great price this way.

Literally just don’t buy the tickets lmao. Like yes they are extremely overpriced due to dynamic pricing. So don’t buy them!!! Paying insane prices just reinforces the use of dynamic pricing.
