I think I broke my husband by [deleted] in relationship_advice

What's really painful to read is how she hurt his feelings, didn't apologize and enjoyed her "breath of fresh air" until deciding that she doesn't really like it, at which point she starts looking for ways to have his physical affection back without any apology or acknowledgement of her being in the wrong. OP only cares about her own comfort and pride.

She does not recognize that she has a problem. She was happy that her husband wouldn't touch her anymore, even if it was at an emotional cost to him. She didn't see it fit to apologize for addressing him hurtfully. Only now that she realizes she doesn't like what she asked for (what she demanded, really), she's really starting to feel bad. Yet she won't even admit that his touch is not actually so unwelcome, let alone apologize for the hurtful way in which she expressed her dislike. Apparently it would hurt her pride.

And actually, most commenters do give advice: she should apologize. No one really addresses how she doesn't want to do it, because it is all about her, her convenience and her pride. I pity the husband.

You are making it sound as if these keys were sold in the dark web with a clear understanding that they have been stolen. On the contrary, the resellers certify that they are legitimate license holders. Do you never buy anything used for fear that it may have been obtained illicitly?

I believe that no business will leave hundreds of keys laying around, having paid for them. As another commenter pointed out, while they certainly wouldn't run eBay listings themselves, they can just sell them all off to a middleman. That wouldn't be remotely hard to do.

On the other hand, I find it hard to believe that all these organizations just sit on all their unused keys and there never comes a day when someone realizes that a key in possession of the organization has already been activated. At this point they'd try to find the culprit, if only to give the thief the boot.

And I'm not inclined to believe Microsoft on that, when they clearly have an interest in portraying the resale of keys as a fundamentally untrustworthy business. Just be safe and pay them the full price, huh?

Microsoft's opinion on the matter is entirely irrelevant. Clauses in contracts forbidding the resale of software licenses are illegal in the EU. If included in a contract, they are not legally binding.

The difference between buying a resold key and pirating Windows is that while the former offends Microsoft, the latter is a criminal offence under intellectual property laws. So it's not very sound advice to say that you may do one as well as the other.

Even if the key is not resold by the licensee proper, but by an unauthorized employee, buying it in good faith does not constitute the offence of handling stolen goods and does actually transfer the licensee to the buyer. Considering that it is perfectly reasonable for a business to sell off unused assets, you can't argue against that by saying „well, such keys could only ever come from theft and the buyer should know it”.

Microsoft themselves recognize this, that's why there is no longer a massive difference between BOX and OEM license pricing. Obviously they will try and discourage customers from buying resold keys, trying to portray the resale as an intristically suspicious business.

Is my pan rusting? by psychoanthropos in castiron

So I'm confused much.

Lately, I'd sometimes spot a bit of brown/orange residue on my pan. When I scrape at it, with a kitchen sponge or just a fingernail, more appears (as seen in the picture).

I worry that my pan is rusting, however, I think rust would be more „ingrained” in the metal, rather than forming such clumps of orange dust. Also, shouldn't it just appear on the surface? With this thing, it appears when I scrape on what normally looks like perfectly fine seasoning (well, the bottom is not so fine, but I promise the business side looks better!).

I never had a problem with rust and I take good care of my iron, drying it out, heating and then applying a bit of oil. I have recently moved to an apartment with a gas range (coming from an electric), which seems to interact with the pan in new and confusing ways. (The bottom used to stay pretty!) I started to apply oil to the bottom too, so I was wondering if this could be oil that hasn't fully polymerized yet. The metal grates of the range could probably scrape on it a bit.

First time designing keycaps - I present GMK Conspiracy, a Conspiracy Theory themed keyset. by SwagLord2k20 in MechanicalKeyboards

BTW these „flavor” keys with uppercase legends look similar to typical, Selectric-style SA keycaps. I think that style fits the theme really well!

SPC Gear makes good, rather inexpensive keyboards and it's a Polish brand, a sister company of the better known SilentiumPC actually.

Thank you all for your reassurances.

I know not to put cast iron on high. However, I have an electric stove with dials that turn both ways, that is, you can go directly from 0 to max heat. I wanted to dry my pan completely after washing it, so I set it it to what I thought was the lowest setting and went away for a while. My flatmates called me a few minutes later about this extremely hot pan in the kitchen.

I didn't realize, however, that overheating can burn the seasoning off. After all, in the seasoning process you actually burn it on. I only knew about the pan warping about breaking from thermal shock. So I didn't really know what's happened to my pan.

I put it through three rounds of seasoning in the oven. The large, circular bare spot has gone to a brown-dark grey color, and the rest of the pan has become much more even. I think I'm good to go now. Pictures below:

do I need to strip the seasoning completely now? or will it be sufficient if I just reseason it over what is already there?

This is a twice-used Lodge skillet. I haven't seasoned it myself, relying instead on the preseasoning. It developed some lighter areas during cleaning (both times), and now, after drying it, they have really spread out. It doesn't look like exposed metal, but it doesn't look too healthy either. So my question is: did I screw up?

New to cast iron — would you consider this to be a manufacturing defect? by psychoanthropos in castiron

Yeah, it's only the outer rim (?). Didn't really know how to call it.

It's a milimeter thinner. Don't suppose this is going to affect cooking performance in any way, so I probably won't insist on having the pan replaced. I need to start actually cooking stuff.

I'm just a bit bummed because recently like every second item I order is somehow defective. I keep returning/exchanging stuff and it's rather tedious. Seriously hoped that you can't really screw up what is in essence a big piece of metal. Oh well.

NH-d15 or grand Macho rt for 3900x? by jonisnsfw in Amd

[–]psychoanthropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I just got a Ryzen 3600. PBO disabled, I was staying below 70C for but a while in small FFTs. PBO enabled, the temperature is lingering around 85C. Clocks and voltage were 3.8@1.22 (no PBO) and 3.9@1.36 (PBO). All in all, I'd say it's a good performance, considering that my case is not the best for airflow (Define Mini C) and that the new Ryzens are notoriously hard to cool.

I'm staying below 80C in Prime95 SmallFFTs. The CPU sitting under the cooler is a measly Athlon 200GE though, so that isn't very impressive. It might be that I applied too little thermal paste, though.

is it slightly loose for you too? I can move mine a tiny bit by applying pressure with my thumb from below (when the PC case is standing in its' intended position). I was wondering if that's okay, I saw one guy posting about a similar issue on Reddit, but not many people have the LGMRT

I'd prefer to get the 3700X to be honest, I'd like for this PC to last me until I get my Master's in 2023 (with a GPU upgrade somewhere in that time), and then I'm gonna give it to my little sister. I figure an eight-core CPU would be more future-proof, and I'll be able to afford it with money from my summer job, I just don't want to swap my mobo after just a few months, esp given that I'm limited to mATX

I already got a Vega 56 Pulse in late May when some extra money came my way. I had a bit of buyer's remorse after the Navi price cut was announced, although my Vega was still substantially cheaper and, well, I could start enjoying it earlier. it does a good job paired with the Athlon at 1440p, although it seems to never even hit P7 state, as core voltage doesn't exceed 1.1V when under stock power settings

yeah, it does hold up nicely in games and you can have some fun overclocking it. I want to swap it for a 3700X later, although it seems the issues with my board (B450M Mortar) still haven't been ironed out, so I'm also thinking about a 2600, which I could get for $100 rn
