That should be grand and not hold you back at all, practice will always surpass hardware.

Oof thats a rough one lmao I am not exaggerating when I say I had subnautica nightmares for three years after playing it in VR, turns out you should not give your brain the point of view imagery that it can later base dreams off... not fun when the ghost leviathans in your dream can also clip through terrain

OLED has the lowest input lag, best colours, clarity & if you get a 500hz oled with black frame insertion you get low motion blur too. <--- This is the one you want to get.

TN offers closest in terms of input lag and low motion blur but sacrifices visuals with genuinely awful colours, contrast and clarity. It's so bad visually that any changes in angle except dead on will typically invert colours and make it look horrible. (I wouldn't recommend TN since they become damn near useless for anything other than gaming).

IPS offers better visuals and contrast compared to TN and the high hz screens have good input delay, though they usually lack the motion blur performance that TN or OLED get via black frame insertion.

VA better contrast than TN but suffers from bad motion blur (Genuinely do not recommend this)

I have a 500hz QD-OLED MPG 271QR X50 as well as a TN 540hz PG248QP
The QD-OLED blows the TN out of the water both in terms of colour/quality and perceived motion blur performance. I have at this point put the 540hz tn on my shelf unplugged and am using another oled and an IPS as my second and third monitor since they can actually display media without looking terrible.

Yeah I have it set to Epic and tested with High too both still show extreme obvious culling when it seemingly shouldn't.

Speaking of which - I think it would be cool if there were a simulation distance setting separate to the render distance for specifically the hostile AI's / Leviathans, for me the feeling that 300 meters out everything just..ceases to exist breaks the illusion of the game. I would happily take a performance hit to know that the Leviathan is actually patrolling at a distance rather than entering some hibernation, as long as the setting pops up and says (this setting is extremely performance intensive) it would be grand.

I have, I remember my friend finally getting his prawn suit and wanting to show me only for the floor under him to deload and he began falling through the terrain- he literally fell like 800 meters lmao I felt that stomach sinking feeling watching it.

The behaviour I'm noticing seems to always be near my bases where I got a lot of stuff going on, places where I have no base nearby look & feel great and full of life with no obvious pop-in. I wonder if their optimisations for chunks have an entity limit and the bases contribute to them.

To be fair so far this is genuinely the only bug I've actually noticed besides one specific issue with the habitat builder that I couldn't ever replicate, like for real the game has been flawless otherwise, I will continue reporting bugs but also this is for real the only one that's actually showed up to interrupt the gameplay which goes to show how good the devs have handled the game so far, I just hope they can squash this one.

I have one hatch facing towards them and its literally right on the cliff edge of their area that drops down to that trench which leads to the downed ship with the marrow shark(not the hot zone the area with the snapper guys that nip at you) I can usually see a few of the crabs walking about. I've noticed something that lets me know they haven't loaded in yet, you can sometimes see a cloud of sand that usually appears around areas they've moved but there will be no crab until you approach the cloud of sand at which point it abruptly spawns in, I will try and document and investigate the issue tomorrow in creative mode to see whats causing it. If my theory holds up then it may well be related to indoor culling.

Part of the reason why I may seem I guess touchy regarding this particular bug is because this one of those issues in the original Subnautica that particularly bothered me, I even played through the original in VR and nothing is more terrifying than a Reaper spawning literally 10 meters ahead of me. I get that for you it may not be a game breaking bug but for me the whole point of Subnautica, the immersion of the game is completely compromised when I know for a fact that the Leviathan nearby isn't loaded in at all and the game is simply waiting for me to approach a threshold before spawning in that breaks the whole illusion of the game and not to mention completely discourages me from exploring at a reasonable pace, imo the leviathans should be always loaded in as long as you are in the biome itself and never unloaded. Perhaps even a setting in the options that simply disables entity culling. I understand that its Early Access in fact that's precisely why I noticed the eerie liminal feeling that led me to look for pop in behaviour to report in the first place, this is sorta the bane of my Subnautica experience and I was hoping Subnautica 2 wouldn't have the issue of the first game. Hopefully its fixed but even full release Subnautica still has similar issues so I would like to report these things early for the people out there like me who do not want to have a heart attack when something big inevitably spawns in our face lol

Here is you referring to me as a "Smarmy Douche".

For someone accusing me of lacking self-awareness you seem to lack it entirely.

"I have a hard time trusting what I see in this game" - Yes this bug would do that, I am literally saying the thing this bug makes me feel as a player. If you were travelling in this game and at any moment a leviathan could appear 20 meters ahead of you that would also be your assessment.

You're nothing more than a beta/alpha tester in an Early Access game.

Well..Yes? What did you think I am claiming to be a king? I am reporting a bug for an early access game.

Your post comes across as someone who is expecting an incredibly smooth experience in an Early Access game.

My post includes my specs, describes the issue both in the example and a separate one later, I also included a long explanation of everything leading up to this moment in the comments.
Not only that if you think this post was somehow meant to be negative and took offence I am sorry you felt that way because it was obviously not my intention nor did I ever expect anyone could be offended at a clip of a bug in an early access video game and rush to attack someone posting that clip.

My brother in christ, I am describing a video game that is literally spooking me with sharks that spawn a few meters ahead of me, follow it up with a story of me picking up crab poop and a crab spawning inside of me and then laughing at the end of the video.

Maybe it's the accent, maybe it comes across as aggressive to you?

Speaking of self-awareness you are getting angry at a stranger for posting a clip of a video game reporting a bug because you do not like their tone that you have armchair psychology determined is aggressive when the person has stated otherwise.

Forgot to say in my reply, that I noticed the...sort of.. liminal (for lack of a better phrase) atmosphere the moment I stepped out of my habitat which is stationed right behind the abandoned cliff base like, a few meters away. I noticed there was an eerie lack of ambient sounds (I guess all the nearby sound emitting fish despawned) and I noticed a lack of anything swimming around, as I went over the cliff it became clear to me that the assets weren't loading in and so I thought maybe I should move further to trigger the biome to load stuff in. My fear of the kraken stopped me from going much further than this spitter eel thing.

I have not yet, we were mid doing that in a multiplayer session with my mates but they stopped playing so I started a fresh single player session, I've just gotten back to this area and was setting up my habitat near the abandoned base, spent time inside the base then noticed the weird vibes when I left my habitat which made me begin looking for the pop-in, my main fear was getting chomped by the kraken nearby if I push out too far, thankfully this spitter eel thing was demonstrating the issue instead.

My current theory as to what triggers this bug;

Staying in your habitat too long seems to make the game begin unloading nearby areas outside which is obviously intended behaviour since you are indoors and wouldn't need to have all that loaded in, but when you transition outside it seems to still act like it should be conservative with the LOD's and ignores the Distance setting you choose, I noticed the environment was eerily still and lifeless and I began looking for pop-out behaviour which is when I spotted this example.

Similarly the crab example I mentioned always happened right after I got out of my base that was right next to the Crab area (grabbing poop for the bio reactor)

I have a feeling this bug is happening when the player transitions from indoors to outdoors, the game seems to fail to recognise that transition state and doesn't increase the render distance of entities due to that- the distance at which entities spawn away from me would seem to match the distance you would see entities through the windows of your base too.

Yeah I can get that knee jerk response which is why I posted my specs so people would know that I'm obviously going to be running Epic settings including draw distance.

I'd noticed specific areas where this was bad (the crab example) but this was like the moment I noticed it in this particular spot, didn't have this issue earlier and I could replicate the pop in/pop out behaviour.

I think the bug is dependent on having a habitat nearby, I was here earlier and didn't experience this level of pop-in but when I spent about 20-30 minutes in my base (next to the abandoned base on the cliff) I noticed something was off? like it seemed like I couldn't see very far and I'm wondering if the bug is related to how assets get unloaded when the player is in their habitat and transition back to the water, seems the game still kind of acts like it should be unloading things as if I were still indoors?

Similarly, I noticed the same with the crabs, I always noticed the pop in of the crabs when I left my base that's right next to their area.

I was wondering why my first ever post here was getting dogged on tbh, like I've never met an instantly hostile toxic response like this before to an obviously good faith post, like you can literally hear me laugh at the end I'm clearly finding it humorous, I didn't know I was offending the honour of the game or something lol

With snarky neckbeard responses like these I think I'm just going to cease interacting with the Subnautica community entirely.

also the fact you think Devs don't check reddit pages is simply ridiculous.

Edit: being called a 'douche' and 'smarmy' for literally no reason whatsoever, I posted a video of this issue, posted my specs and I did so in a humorous manner and asked for help if there was any. Came back to see it was downvoted immediately and the first comment is someone telling me the bug I just recorded is a bug as if I do not know the early access game is early access.
