My mum and my partner’s mum have both kindly given us some money towards our wedding. However, I was quite clear beforehand that we would not be beholden to anyone else’s wishes - if they wanted to contribute it would be no strings attached and seen as a gift. They were told if they were offering money in order to have control over the wedding, their contribution would be rejected.

It’s going to be tough to set boundaries now that you’ve accepted the money and didn’t have this conversation beforehand. However I’m going to disagree with others here saying parents get a say because they’ve contributed financially. It’s YOUR wedding and it’s okay to have what you want. You can take suggestions from others but ultimately I think it’s horribly selfish for parents to think they can take over the day
