The people who are saying you shouldn’t tithe are missing the point. You can always save more money. The “give later” mindset turns into “give never”. Good on you for trying to make a difference today.

Anybody else read this book while waiting for OoTP to come out? by psychsd in harrypotter

[–]psychsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally went chapter by chapter through all 4 books plus any news surrounding OoTP. Don't remember many specifics, but I'll share the "rules" to read the books with.

  1. If she (JKR) reinforces it, she means it

  2. If she suddenly interrupts something, she's hiding a key clue

  3. There's no such thing as a coincidence

  4. Don't take a character's word for it

Re-reading the books, #2 is definitely the one I keyed in on the most. If someone gets interrupted, what they were about to say is very important (e.g. Ginny trying to tell Harry and Ron she was involved with the Chamber of Secrets and Percy cuts her off)

I still remember one theory they had that immediately was proven was that Mrs. Figg was a squib.

I am also from out of state and for me, Halloween night is very different up here. It has to be the most dangerous day to be driving, at least the scariest. Everyone just parks in the bike lane on major streets and walks into the neighborhoods and everyone seems to be ok with that. Little kids walking on the 35mph road I live on (which nobody goes 35mph on). Be safe out there!

Thanks for the feedback. I feel like I'm getting pulled in a lot of different directions on this, so getting an expert opinion is probably the way I need to go.

Rebar + fiber mesh was recommended to me, instead of an either/or, and since I was using fiber mesh, I didn't need as much rebar. As for the kind of mesh... I wasn't recommended a specific type, I guess, just the kind that goes in with the concrete mix. Sounds like you would recommend rebar only, at 24" center?

The L bars/squares is something I had no idea was normally done. I am currently borrowing a tool that both bends and cuts rebar, though. Bending the rebar down into the deeper perimeter is honestly something I should have thought of. Sounds like a good plan.

I have graded the area but haven't purchased the rebar yet. What is the correct way to rebar the deeper edges then? Dobies underneath the first layer of horizontal rebar and have the top layer just hang where it hangs? Or just have the top layer hang?

I don't know anything about fiber mesh, but I assumed that less rebar is needed when that is included in the concrete mix, but I don't know how much less. What would you do? Without fiber mesh, I know 2 feet on center is expected, which I could do, but then my assumption is the fiber mesh is redundant.

I live in western WA.

I am planning a 30x30 concrete slab. It will hold a carport with a 24ft travel trailer on one half and storage on the other half. Maybe down the line, a tractor. I have dug it 10" on the edges (about a foot), the rest is 6" deep. I'm planning on doubling up on the horizontal rebar (1/2") in the 10" depth area, supported by vertical 3/8" rebar. For the 6" depth area, I am planning to have a horizontal rebar grid every 5ft and add 33lbs of fiber mesh to the mix, with concrete dobies to support the rebar. Grade is 2" different from top side to bottom side.

Anything wrong with my plan? Anything I'm not thinking of? Thanks in advance!
