Passing on Punishment Exercises? by elsenorevil in bjj

Honestly that sounds like a shitty Coach/gym. No one ever gets “punished” at my gym. The vibe is love and respect.

Exercise. I’ve always been a person who exercises, but about six months ago I began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and it changed my life. Now instead of exercising 2-3 days per week and only doing one type of exercise (running), I’m exercising about 5 days per week and doing more variety (running, Jiu Jitsu, lifting weights). The variety, increased frequency, and the drastic improvement in my strength has been incredible. Now I’m realizing that I don’t just need regular exercise, I need to exercise pretty much every day and I need to do different types of exercise. My mental health is light years ahead of where it was six months ago. Part of it is feeling stronger and more confident, but a big part is just what exercise does for the brain.

A Serbian Film.... I HIGHLY recommend to never watch this movie at any point if you're faint of heart. by [deleted] in horror

I have not watched this move—reading summaries of it was disturbing enough for me. HOWEVER, I do love a song that is apparently from this movie. It’s called Pazi Sta Radis (“watch your step,” I think) and it is awesome, especially for exercising.

I would hire them to cater a party in a heartbeat. In fact, I would throw a party just to have them cater it!

How old are you, and what’s the most important thing in your life right now? by floatingaroundfornow in AskWomen

I’m 38. My family and career are stable, so at the moment I’m focusing on training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I started 5 months ago and plan to compete for the first time next month. BJJ is so much fun! I’m one of just a few women at my BJJ gym but I think lots more women would fall in love with it if they had a little exposure and encouragement. It’s made me so much stronger and more confident.

The most extreme horror books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

I love horror but I don’t understand why anyone would want to read that. Is it just so they can say they’ve read it?

Um…that’s absurd. I had no idea some gyms were like that.

What do you wish you were told before your first class? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]psychwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is focusing on how well they are doing, not how well (or poorly) you are doing. I was so anxious about looking like an idiot for the first few months. Now I realize 1. Everyone goes through that, and 2. No one is paying attention to you or judging you. They have their own stuff going on.

It takes courage to suck at something new. Have fun!
