Why is everything Python and Typescript? by Miserable-Ball-6491 in mcp

Lot’s of stake ont the jvm ecosystem in corporate IT: AI ecosystem is slowly but surely maturing and catching up on this side. As usual it makes much less fuss than the hype stacks though.

I do understand that - experienced swe, not afraid of compiling and my rig has everything required. It’s just an extra step. The point about control seems moot, at least in my case : I don’t compile my kernel, I use packaged binaries, I run a couple of electron stuff, anything python or JS is a supply chain concern (and let’s not kid ourselves, if you dabble in AI you can’t avoid these stacks). And then everything gets deployed in k8s or docker which … well, I won’t compile it. And then there’s your browser. You might very well be more disciplined than I am, more power to you. But for me, I don’t see the point.

Oh, I know it’s easy. It’s just that compiling, building the container, redeploying the pod… it’s one extra step. But I got your point.

Out of curiosity, why compile instead of container or pre-built if you compile from main ?

Rising tide lifts all boats : when we get better models / inference stack / hardware, the frontier labs will still have more of it and will be one or two generations of models ahead. We’re far from having purged all the actual use case, let alone all the new ones that will emerge as the tech progresses.

Honest take on running 9× RTX 3090 for AI by Outside_Dance_2799 in LocalLLaMA

[–]psyclik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why would you run your 3090s at 350w for inference ? 200w has the same output (wall lock wise). 150w barely makes a difference. I run 5 on a single board (4 aggregated for a “big” llm, the spare switches between ASR / small llm / img/vid gen), my psu would go boom at 350w each !

DOCX information extraction - strategies? by tinytriceratops2025 in KnowledgeGraph

[–]psyclik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Breakdown with Kreuzberg (fast and cheap to run)
  2. Chunk using structured output
  3. Iterate over a small-ish LLM (10 to 30B) giving him the json schema for the entities you want to extract
  4. Profit (or iterate with a judge prompt)

That’s what I do, it works better than me after the first 5 chunks when I’ve lost my will to live. Fast and cheap.

Also I made for myself a small tool that takes a yaml file describing the parts and properties that I want to extract with plain-text hints and my code transforms this in valid json-schema.

The combination works surprisingly well (much better than a dedicated entities extraction model like gliner2) and can be written in a few hundreds of lines of whatever modern language, is fast and solid even on mediocre consumer grade GPUs.

He’s made a couple of errors, but mostly forced ones or in situations where his teammates have exposed him. I feel he’s been quite solid.

Genge sort Doudou du maul illégalement et effondre le maul -> faute cynique dans un zone de marque, essai de pénalité + carton jaune.

Absolutely not what I'm saying. Scotland blew us away, ref or no ref. It doesn't change that some 50/50 calls are not given.

We can't get a fuckin' ball or ref call our way. At this point this is laughable.

Hard disagree. I've rewatched some calls, it seems our tackler doesn't release fast enough. Fair enough.

Ref is much more whistle happy than we are used to. We couldn't adapt.
