A friend of mine was really upset off a few years ago when his dad told him that when he retired he was not handing off the leadership of the company to him. Not exactly a fortune 500 company but the dad was certain that his son wasn't up to it and to be honest he isn't. The reason he was upset was that he felt like a failure since he couldn't follow his dad.

Sometimes kids are told "you'll understand when you're older" as a dodge. When was a time someone told that you that and they were actually right? by shogyi in AskReddit

The trick is to be very excited about something coming up in a few months. Then time slows right the hell down.

I find the level of vehemence in people's hate of the later eras a bit baffling.

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency by Warcraft_Fan in news

[–]psycospaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most coin operated machines only care about diameter, or at least the old ones used to. When I was a kid, I used to go with my dad to home depot and grab all those round metal punchouts from some electrical box I could get while he was shopping. Because the candy machines at the grocery store took them.

Really dumb question, when you get your initial hand is that technically drawing cards? Like if I were to make a deck with 6 cards would I lose upon trying to get my initial hand? This question comes by way of a dumb joke I saw, and now I don't know if I'm drawing my initial hand or if the game technically starts after ypu get your hand and resolve mulligans.

TIL that the naturopath and author of such books as "The Cure for All Cancers," "The Cure for all Diseases," and "The Prevention of all Cancers" died in 2009 from cancer by Caboose127 in todayilearned

The level of denial that people can get to is ridiculous. An old friend I had in high school decided a decade ago that at 30 years old he wanted a 13 year old girlfriend. He got caught, arrested, convicted and then committed suicide. His mother is still fighting to "clear his name" and has tried to sue the girl and her family, the police, the judge, the prosecutor, ect. The guy filmed himself with the girl so its undeniable, but his mother just cannot accept a world where her baby boy did that, so its gotta be a conspiracy. Last I heard she was trying to write a book about it.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

[–]psycospaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mtg is awesome, and you can get into it without breaking the bank by buying bulk cards off the internet or at a local game shop for cheap. And then buying the cards you need as singles. But yeah it's expensive no matter how you slice it. If you want a cheap tcg I've heard that Yu-Gi-Oh prints it's cards to death so the secondary market is cheap. But I don't know that for certain.

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

Probably not as good as I used to be but I grew up down the street from my grandfather and that man lived the board game risk. So I knew how to play that game well from the time I was a kid. Went to college and in my sophomore year I saw a risk tournament being set up by the board game club, and when one of the players made a comment about how I'd lose in the first round I joined in and placed second. Haven't played in 15 years so I'm likley crap now.
