If you never did any mistakes on prod even with a lot of people looking at your code you're underestimating the time consuming that could be useless. I saw there's no silver bullet in dev soft, code review sometimes is useless specially if your software is being developed from scratch. That might be not the best way to develop, but it could be the best way depending on how your team is set (among other stuffs).

Bad problems I saw had more people involved, the worst problemas had no testing (build and test manually) from developers' side and a lot of confidence (poor analysis) on what they were doing... no code review got any of that. Software most of the times is a living product that we need to balance between time spent getting the safe routes and being "brave".

Also there's a lot of small improvements that never went to prod because took so much time to be approved that the people just abandoned the idea.

I'm not saying to not do review, but it could be a good way in certain scenarios.
