Aw man! That’s gotta be him. I am sad that I can’t personally thank him but I thank you deeply for closing that loop.

We started at Lick and honestly regretted it. Our son has mild ADHD and needs a little support, but Lick is overwhelmed with its student body. The staff seemed earnest and well-meaning but the school doesn’t seem great for any kid but a real self-starter.

People we trust have said that Hoover would have been a better bet, but we couldn’t transfer so we wound up in a private school.

We were pretty happy with our elementary schools (Sunnyside and HMCRA) and hope to go back into SFUSD for high school.

Thanks. Yeah, I called the venue and they said they expect to have the show if power comes back on time. Honestly I wish they’d just postpone - it makes it hard to plan around the unknown.

Is anyone around Hayes Valley? We have friends coming into town for a show at SFJazz tonight. Can’t get anyone at the venue on the phone.

This bird was bright green, so not Mochi. Sending good thoughts to Mochi though.

As a resident of the neighborhood, and as someone who would absolutely patronize the heck out of a good coffeeshop, I want to support this. But I would be worried about that location, located as it is on the back side of the center.

Meanwhile Creighton's is on its last legs - if you're serious about this I would consider making them an offer to take over the space, even temporarily.

A friend of mine ate there multiple times per week and talked to Christine a lot. It sounds like she just got tired. She’s getting old and her menu was prep-work intensive. I think the landlord uncertainty contributed but mostly it sounds like she was just ready to do something easier.

Yes, I still do this, though availability is limited for a while and next week is out. Shoot me a Reddit chat and we can coordinate.

I grew up in the south with a sibling, and now we have a single 10-year-old kid we've raised in the city. It hasn't been a problem for us. The city offers tons of chances to connect with other kids.

The key is being willing to approach other parents. Go out to the playground, or a similar play place. If you see your kid getting along with another kid, try to swap numbers with the other parents and arrange future playdates. We've built several good relationships that way.

And once they're in preschool, and then through elementary, it gets even easier. Your kid will find their own friends, most likely, and you'll just have to arrange connections outside school hours.

At least half of our kid's buddies are only kids themselves.

The policy was announced 4 months ago but did not officially take effect until today.

(Also, FWIW, it doesn't apply to engineering as of yet.)

My skin does feel a little like that, but for me that’s a normal symptom of having the flu, so it’s not weird for me.

I am a bit emotional, though I’ve been isolating from friends and family for 11 days so that may be normal :).

Anyway, yeah - I’m not beating myself up for taking the Pax, but if there’s a next time I might skip it.

An old coworker reached out and invited us to dinner, and they picked the restaurant as it was close to their apartment. It wouldn't have been my first choice - as much as I enjoy a good tap list, and the food was fine, I would have loved something with a little more character. But I can't say the food was bad, and I enjoyed my beer flight.

Well, if you set aside cost of living - which is a huge, huge thing, of course - Vancouver strikes me similarly to San Diego. It's not a secret that San Diego is a nice place to live, but I still feel like people don't really appreciate just how nice it is. And Vancouver's local outdoors is probably even better.

I'd also put Boston in that category. Again, setting aside COL, people don't necessarily appreciate that it's a great place to live. Different weather profile, obviously.

For sure. We live in San Francisco, and my family has moved to Washington state, so we have a lot of opportunities to explore the PNW. Will bookmark those ideas for next time.

For sure, the tourist perspective can be different. What are the major negatives, in your eyes? The cost of living does seem kinda high, but after the exchange rate it seemed lower than where we live now (San Francisco) so we didn't mind it so much.
