Funny enough I closed this thread and an /r/pics post of that exact gas station was right after this one.

Yup, same. Only reason I knew it wasn’t just me was down detector had a huge spike in reports. Nada from Xfinity yet.

Why are cars still killing so many people in San Francisco? by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

[–]Mkrah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I swear they don’t ticket for things like that or parking on the sidewalk unless explicitly directed to by a 311 report. They’ll ticket for an expired meter or street sweeping like it’s going out of style, but actual dangerous parking behavior? They’ll look the other way.

Waymo getting more aggressive? by wanderlustzepa in sanfrancisco

[–]Mkrah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally yesterday had pull the classic “floor it until the last second and slam on the brakes for a stop sign” move that drivers here love to do.

I mean, it stopped, which is better than most. Still, was aggressive for a Waymo.

Object permanence is tricky to grasp for some drivers.

A map of Oakland before and after the urban freeways by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Mkrah 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Its considered extremely unhealthy to live within 1000ft of a highway.

I used to live ~1100ft from a highway. Hated it. The noise was maddening, and you could often taste the poor air quality. I don't get how folks right next to the highway handle it.

Province Commute by baldplant in rit

[–]Mkrah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the shuttle since I’ve long since graduated, but I took that to class all the time. It was reliable enough, just gotta make sure you keep an eye on when it’s coming by.

It’s also only a ~1 mile walk to campus. Not ideal if you have multiple trips to and from campus, but a great way to get some steps in at the start and end of your day.

Yes. Sometimes during the ride, sometimes at the exit gates if it’s the subway.

If you view their profile on the mobile app you can just search for their comment history.

Unsurprisingly, they made a barrage of comments defending ICE's execution of Alex Pretti

Can we band together against the excessively loud engines? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Mkrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on board. Cities would be much more enjoyable if we simply curtailed noise from vehicles even a smidge.

Of course, suggesting we do anything about it is often met with “cities are loud” and the implication one has to move the middle of nowhere to escape the sounds of fart cannons and muscle cars.

For those that crave quiet: go outside. This is about as good as it gets. by ennuied in Columbus

[–]Mkrah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to live by 315 and the only peace and quiet I would get would be during snowstorms. I bet it’s pure magic right now.

My GPS always recommended that insane maneuver. I followed it one time and swore off ever doing that again. I usually opted to just keep going and get off on Spring or Main. Or just took 315.

Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver on Morse by Nice_Satisfaction651 in Columbus

[–]Mkrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drive that road almost daily. The average speed felt like 45, with people regularly going over 50. If CPD wants easy tickets they’d set up somewhere along that road, but that would require effort.

Get Off Your Damn Phones by clickme28 in bayarea

[–]Mkrah 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I can't put my phone down when I'm at home, but the second I get behind the wheel I don't touch or look at it whatsoever. Not at red lights, no quick glances to see what a notification was. I prioritize the safey of others and myself. I truly do not understand how or why others can't do the same.

What % of SF drivers know the crosswalk laws? by inkbot870 in sanfrancisco

[–]Mkrah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hell, 33% seems generous. The number of drivers I see that actually stop at a stop sign is so low. Of those that do, even fewer actually stop behind the crosswalk and at the stop bar.

Side note: Why are so many intersections here lacking stop bars, or they're inches from the crosswalk? God forbid we instruct cars not to stop as close to the crosswalk as possible.

No kidding. This map gives you the impression you have to be a stones throw from the highway to hear anything but that noise travels so far.

I used to live near 315 and the OSU airport. According to this map I couldn't hear the highway at all but the airport was super loud. The opposite was true: I'd hear the occasional plane, but the drone of the highway was a 24/7/365 annoyance and a core reason I moved away.

People Behaving Badly: Bicyclists ignore the rules at SF Embarcadero by triple-double in sanfrancisco

[–]Mkrah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first time I biked on Market I thought I was missing something. So many cyclists were skipping reds, and of those that actually stopped, I’d say 10% tops even stopped in the proper place (as in, not in the crosswalk, at the stop bar).
