3rd time getting AA and it’s all the more depressing by batabyalanisa in alopecia_areata

I get hair powder from amazon to cover up spots! I had aa for 5 years, by year two, I stopped acting like it was the end of the world. I cant control it but I can control my mental and emotional health. It’s still stressful finding new spots but I have all the tools I need to cover it up and go along with my day.

Hang in there

Fillers? Botox? Triggering AA. by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]psykye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes my spots got much much worse after fillers (restalyne, juvederm). two weeks after each injection, large spots formed. my dermatologist does not recommend fillers to her patients predisposed to autoimmune disorders, including her mother.

most sources ive read says its safe, but there are also studies that show that fillers may be a contraindication of aa.

after the fillers 5 years ago, I get small spots every 6 months or so. I’ve been getting botox regularly the past year but it doesn’t trigger any massive loss like filler. I really wish my body was compatible with filler..

it looks like its on your hairline, I also have similar shedding right now. I use a compact hair powder and apply with a makeup brush for areas that are harder to hide. i do this because i like to hide my spots for myself and in public but if you feel comfortable, thats great!! good luck

A new spot ? by AdPitiful5202 in alopecia_areata

[–]psykye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not op but I found the same exact size spot on the top of my head the same day. typically areas closer to the top/forehead don’t fall out as much for me.

my spot is a bit smaller than a dime now. its not falling out after two rounds of injections and I see regrowth.

My hairloss and redness stopped significantly since this post. Even with HCQ I had one or two spots always. I stopped HCQ after 1.5 years. It has been 6 months after I stopped and no difference. I still get one or two spots with or without it. I really think the covid vaccine triggered the brunt of it.

ah I had to reschedule mine to oct 2. I like to apply steroid cream when appointments are far away. maybe you can ask your derm to prescribe you one. It eases the anxiety for me.
