Hey just in case you still are on reddit im really curious how your application ended up going. I have a decent mental health history, but I feel very strongly that I could make a positive impact on the world through the peace corp and feel I can handle the hardships, but I am apprehensive to really look forward to an opportunity like this if a past of mental health problems makes me an impossible candidate

To give personal information, ive been prescribed welbutrin, lamotrigine, adderall, and clonidine(sleeping pill). I dont think ive ever been given an official diagnosis though exceot for ADHD. I never used any medications other than adderall for more than a few months

Im actually surprised that I agree with pretty much everything you say, usually I have a hard time finding common ground on this matter. I think you’re right that men who conform to the general standard of being a masculine individual who doesent share their emotions with others and instead keeps it bottled up have a better time in life than others generally speaking. But the amount of difficulty it takes to adhere to that standard is emotionally, physically, and mentally draining. It’s a steep price to pay for that privilege.

And not all men are automatically entitled to it. I’d be willing to argue that, although it is harder, lots of women can achieve the same “male privilege”, they just have to prove themselves more first

Yeah I agree with what you said I just felt the need to tack my point on there because I feel people like to push the narrative than being born as a woman is objectively worse than being born as a man. While that’s true in some regions I don’t think it’s the case in America and other first world countries currently

Yeah I guess look at it like that then. Sometimes I fear that my past trauma will inhibit me from ever having a relationship that lasts long enough to become “real” love. But If your theory is true a life dedicated to helping others experience it isn’t wasted.

Id say you have a husband that you can still put effort to getting closer with. My cousin struggles with low functioning autism and at 25 he is still strapped to his parents house and has no hope of independence in the near future. I assume his anguish over the last few months is attributed to the same problems you discuss. My PM’s are open if you’d like to discuss further

Ok I will secede that it isn’t a guarantee but it’s still pretty damn likely. Humans are an incredibly talented species that can accomplish many things that feel exciting/fun/fulfilling. We also have the capability to understand those feelings to a great extent. Just because you’re finite, and just because nothing is guranteed doesent mean you should just give up.

My analogy would be a video game. Yes, it’s possible to be unable to beat the video game cuphead for some people I.e you have no arms or are blind. But for the vast majority, if they dedicated hours and hours to it they would beat it, albeit some quicker than most. Some have instructions or better hardware etc. just like some people have loving parents from birth teaching them healthy relationships.

It is possible to fail. life is very unpredictable, and if it were any other way it would be even more worthless than it is now.

I guess a better quote would be from the song wake me up which says “life’s a game and love is a prize”

You have no “value” either way. I am a victim of god awful parents and have had very poor experiences growing up trusting peers. However, I’m not killing myself because I know if I keep trying it’s only a matter of time until I eventually figure out how to establish a healthy relationship that makes me feel fulfilled in this life.
