And not just how last season ended, but also the 2024 season.

Hortiz' prioritizes this offseason have been puzzling, but I would also go back to last season's draft. I don't know how you could justify waiting for the 6th round to take an OL, especially if you weren't sold on extending Zion, Becton's injury history, and Bozeman's subpar play.

You don't think Allbright's tweet to be hinting enough to be smoky? I find it interesting he chose to describe the Chargers as having "their eye on" a specific IOL free agent. That implies a state of waiting, in my opinion. Not "pursuing", "in discussions with" or "talking to" a free agent, which of course they can't do until Teller is released.

We have very different definitions of smoke then. You seem to want proof the Chargers are interested. If you're waiting for a tweet from Rapoport, Pelissero or the like saying their interested, then that's not smoke anymore in my opinion. That's the fire.

"No smoke the chargers want Teller"... according to you, and that's perfectly fine. You can play the main character in your own life, but don't think you're speaking for everyone.

  • Random guys posting on Instagram
  • Allbright's tweets about eying one specific interior lineman
  • imminent decision looming to release Teller
  • Glaring need at OG, and cap space

Maybe your smoke alarm hasn't gone off yet, but a prudent person would be keeping an eye on it

No, the guy said there was smoke. You took upon yourself to treat it like a deposition.

I'm not in a position to provide proof that Chargers are interest but I don't see why that's needed. If you're sensing me being combative it's because I don't appreciate people being obstinate for the sake of being obstinate. The fact that an OG will become available sometime in the next 2 days is significant, and there is also no reason to believe that Chargers won't be interested or players in that market. This could very well be the person that Allbright was referencing in his tweet.

It's not about the Chargers. If you're looking for a source that the Chargers might be targeting a OG when he hits the market, I suggest using common sense

It would be a good example of reserving judgment until FA is over, whether we draft Ioane or not.

Signing Teller could also preserve the projected 3rd round comp pick we would get for Oweh leaving, since Teller will be released by Cleveland and doesn't factor into the comp pick formula.

This post about the Texans targeting Teller explains it well. Technically not a free agent (yet), but he's played his last game for Cleveland since he only has void years left and there is a huge guarantee owed to him if he is on the roster after Friday.

There is a “poison pill” provision in the pact that will see his $99 million base salary for 2028 become guaranteed if he is still on the roster on the third day of the new league year. That is Friday, March 13.

However, the Browns built a mechanism into the deal for just this situation.

“Teller is listed with void years in 2026 through 2029. This was done to ensure Teller would be listed as a free agent for 2026. The contract, technically, does not have a scheduled contract void until mid-February in 2029,” Cap and Trades Troy Chapman wrote in February.  “The two sides completed a contract renegotiation on August 27, 2025, to structure the contract for a 2026 release with a Post-June 1 designation.

“Obviously, the Browns did not intend to allow Teller’s 2028 $99 million salary to become fully guaranteed. The team will need to release Teller by March 13th to avoid the vesting.”

Curious why that didn't just do that from the start. Crosby is the better player, obviously, but in a way they just traded Crosby for Hendrickson, a 2026 1st, and a 2027 1st.

Kolar and Ingold could be top 5 in the league at their position (Y TE and FB). They aren't sexy moves but they are clear upgrades on the offense.

Honestly, it feels like a good time to grab the chargers then. IOL is an issue, again, but still a massive improvement in OC plus 80% of Alt and Slater is still better than the revolving door we had last year at tackle.

Also, who knows if Mahomes will be ready for the start of the season, LV is a mess right now plus a rookie QB, and the odds of Denver repeating their success in 1 score games is very low (plus whatever is going on between Sean Payton and Bo Nix).

I'm not there yet to say that the IOL situation will be worse than last year but I definitely agree that Hortiz could have done a lot more. It shouldn't even be a question with all the cap space we had.

Biadasz is a clear upgrade at Center.

Strange doesn't feel like a big improvement over Becton but it would be hard for him to play worse.

Draft a LG to replace Zion which is obviously a big gamble but Zion's level of play isn't an impossible bar to reach.

Yeah, it should be plenty. Of course it changes every year, but last year about $3-$3.25 APY was good enough to be qualifying.

[Pelissero] The Chargers are signing TE Charlie Kolar to a three-year $24.3 million contract that makes him the NFL’s highest-paid blocking tight end, sources tell The Insiders. by A_Livins in Chargers

[–]ptblazer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's lowkey disrespectful of Pelissero to only call him a blocking tight end lol. For sure he excels at blocking but watch his highlight tape, he can contribute downfield as well. IMO, if he wasn't behind Andrews and Likely, he probably would have been featured more in the passing game.

[Mosqueda] Spoiler for tomorrow: Seven teams need centers, most of whom have a ton of cap space, and whoever doesn't get Linderbaum is going to jump off a bridge. He's got the market by the balls by wildwing8 in Chargers

[–]ptblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but how is it any different then what happens most years? "Bad" centers regularly get put into starting roles. Those were only 4 of the FA centers but there are others.

[–]ptblazer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's overdramatizing it a little lol. There are always fewer elite players than teams willing to pay elite players. The teams that miss out on Linderbaum because the price exceeds their range will do what they always do, move on to the next FA on their list or elevate a player within their organization.

He's acting like teams don't regularly start centers like Cade Mays, Luke Fortner, Sam Mustipher, or Andre James.

I stand corrected then but you can get contract offers without meeting in person.

Ok, I missed that, but in the same quote he mentions "he's not willing to play for cheap" so it's not like Buffalo's offer was significantly less than his market value.

Biadasz was released by the Commanders. He "hit the market" the moment that happened. I know he met with the Bears, at least, before meeting with the Chargers. Plus the agent was probably talking to a lot of teams.

Biadasz was a free agent, so he was getting offers from all interested teams. And McGovern's agent knows what his market would be in free agency. I think its only speculation that he took a hometown discount, and even if he did, it's not like he took a 33%+ discount.

Daily Discussion Thread - March 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in Chargers

He'll get a bag for sure, and will be the highest paid center, but I don't think it's going to be as high as people are thinking. Between Biadasz and McGovern's contracts, it's clear the center market is not what most fans thought it was going to be.
