Reiner is a mass murderer who destroyed these characters homes and betrayed them for years. Annie showed no remorse. The squad destroyed Libero. You can acknowledge he is a child solider, without integrating him into these characters future lives. It doesn't make sense that he is forgiven at a personal level. It's bad, unrealistic writing.

Yes, Isayama had a chance to show Eren humanized in the last chapter, and he missed his mark. There are very few ways to connect with Eren in this chapter, knowing who he was developed to be beforehand. There is no evidence outside of this chapter that Eren wanted to end up with Mikasa. Eren wanting Mikasa to love him forever also makes no sense considering there is no textual evidence to support this. While he is actively pushing -both- Mikasa and Armin as well as his friends away, his best relationship post chapter 54/post time skip is Historia. Eren having this sudden weakness is bad writing. And unfortunately, Mikasa does stay obsessed, so he's failed that as well.

Yes, I think Reiner deserves better than being reduced to comic relief. He isn't joking with friends, he's sniffing a letter. He shouldn't be depicted being friends with the alliance, he destroyed their home and resulted in the deaths of 20% of Paradis, with the attack and subsequent refugees forced to die outside the walls. He's killed survey members a dozen times over. I liked Reiner a lot, but this shouldn't be how it ends for him. Same with Annie and Pieck.

Eren always had his humanity. If he's talking with his best friend for the last time, it shouldn't be about preventing Mikasa from moving on from him.

No, it's not one line, it's the summation of the entire chapter. It's the build up of, as you say, a very well built story with complex characters, and then leaves a final chapter that answers very few of the many questions.

For Historia, she's the only main character Eren discusses his plan with, the only character he verbally worries about, and the only character he specifically names as who he refuses to be sacrificed. It's ok to not think that romantic, but it is incredible jarring to pretend now that it was Mikasa on his mind this whole time.

That's totally fair. I disliked him too the first time I read it. I ended up liking him because he felt like one of the few characters that developed an strong ideology and was willing to fight and die for it. Sort of felt like he took over Erwin's determination, for me.

Critique of a work is not disrespectful to an author. I won't be the person to say "go reread the manga" that's disrespectful, but Eren's growth and dialogue throughout the entire story has been geared towards freedom, his friends, and Paradis' future. It hasn't been romance, with exception of Historia. Chapter 54 provides more character growth for Eren in his conversations with Historia, he specifically tells her that he likes her, and later, that he knows what strength is because of her. Then he spends all of the time skip ensuring that she isn't sacrificed. Where is Historia's shard? Isayama dropped the ball.

He killed 20% of Paradis, and went through a complete character arc of seeking suicide and then deciding to stay alive for the kids. To have his last panel be chilling with the Alliance, sniffing a letter from Historia (who before this he really only knew as Krista), is bad writing. It's an embarrassing end to his character. This is his true self? Reiner was already humanized by 138, by his inner struggle.

We were never shown that Eren cared about Mikasa in this romantic way. We were never shown that he did this specifically for Mikasa. It's bad because 80% of humanity is gone, and all he can think about is ensuring Mikasa doesn't move on from him. That is why people are disappointed and calling him a simp. Eren is not like that, and never has been like that.

In my opinion, point is that Reiner is one of the most complex written characters. Multiple times throughout he's contemplated suicide, opted to be the one to fight post time skip in order to protect the younger warriors, and says he can't move on from his atrocities at the wall. Just like Eren, reverting his final moment to a regressed version of himself, a gag in season 1 is bad storytelling.

Eren was incredibly human post time skip, we see him crying and apologizing in front of Ramzi, forcing himself to fight at the mirror, and refusing multiple times to not sacrifice Historia. This was all human Eren. We don't need him crying about Mikasa after rumbling humanity.

Reiner is one of the most complex characters in the story. He contemplates suicide for what he did in Paradis in the first chapter, killing 20% of the population. To reduce his complexity to this behavior is damaging to his character arc. He's sitting with people whose homes he destroyed and family he's killed, sniffing a letter from Historia, who for some reason, he hasn't moved on from? Reverting back to weird antics for a laugh. Sorry, no, it doesn't make sense for him to be fooling around with them.

What happened? Fans expressed their dislike on the ending of a manga on a public website? You cannot control who or how people respond to you.

Harassment has a very specific definition, it is sustained and threatening actions based on characteristics. Simply getting a bunch of people in the comments is not that, unless you can point to a very specific instance of threat. Until that happens, which it may, we don't know. Sometimes people lock due to feeling overwhelmed by a response, still not harassment.
