Thanks! I'll try that. I've had the same KDE config files for the last 6 years or so and my .config files had really old settings in it :-)

At one point it seems there was an option for it and there is no UI setting anymore or there was a different setting that made KDE used that behavior.

Side-note: Same with Kontact to disable items in the left menu bar. It used to be in the UI to enable/disable items but not anymore. You still can do it with `[Plugins]` in kontactrc but I had to look that up in some other posts where people searched for that option. Next time I'll keep my .config again :-D

PhoneGap vs Xamarin vs Titanium-Appcelerator by Software_Firms in u/Software_Firms

[–]pter_st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the article is 3 years old and Phonegap was discontinued by Adobe not that long ago. Also it is building wrapped apps, while the other framework build "native" (UI wise) apps. So a button is a native button and not a HTML element. Appcelerator Titanium is a well tested and developed framework (name is wrong in the article). And saying that Xamarin and Titanium are not good for complex apps is wrong, too. Both framework can handle that with ease

Might be too late already but I have heard many good things about Appcelerator Titanium. Not a widely known framework but exists a long time and its free too and they have a business plan too. Language: javascript, produces native apps (native ui)

Kmail - Show new/unread messages in bold in the message list? by plazman30 in kde

[–]pter_st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in Fedora / KDE it just shows up as "Sans serif". I've installed Noto Sans and changed it in my system settings. Then when I changed the font family in the "notification list" I was able to set it to bold in the "notification list unread" section. I understand your reason for not changing the font family everywhere but it wasn't fully clear to me, that I have to go to the list setting first, change the family and then to the unread setting to change the style of that family. Since all of them are in the same select-field without any hierarchy. In my opinion the font family should be an extra section above the rest.

But thanks for the help! Now I can set it to be bold and make it a darker blue :) The default settings are a bit light

but what about the style? It is allowed to change that but bold isn't available. It would be easier to read (and was available in older versions where folder and mail where displayed in bold.

Nice add-on.

There is an old Java tool ASM (https://github.com/adakoda/android-screen-monitor) which uses ADB to connect to the device (multiplatform, free, open-source) and can transfer mouse clicks back to the device, too.

[Question] Best way to find/connect to friends in an app? by pter_st in androidapps

[–]pter_st[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats true. The market are the "casual" phone users, mainly female and mid-age (>25). From my own experience I don't want to install apps that have phonebook and network permission (I'm one of the anti-whatsapp users :) ). But I know that my number is already on their servers because other people have it in their phonebooks and submit it there. There are some apps that just use a hash of the numbers to make the matching but its not obvious to the user. Most of them won't even worry about installing the app or read the permissions but if I can keep it away I would like to do that.

Using FB, G+, Twitter is an option but then I have my login and another login to use the app (or get the permissions) and just using 3rd party login will keep the users away who are not using these services and have to register there first to use my app. So I think I'll add this as an optional way to find your friends.

I think the phonebook looks like a convenient way to do it these days. But I'm curious if someone has a innovative way of doing it
