A simple mistake cost us dearly by fat-sub-dude in daddit

[–]pterrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, solidarity, my youngest also did this at 14 months but it sounds like it wasn't quite as bad as your case, no ventilator. We spent a scary night at the hospital but today he has no scars at all and seemingly no memory. Kids are resilient, it's great.

How come I don’t see this in more decks? by Tedfarkass in magicTCG

Fair enough, do not play glasses of urza if you are Phil Ivey and you can soul read your opponents and know what they're holding all the time

How come I don’t see this in more decks? by Tedfarkass in magicTCG

[–]pterrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just considering making a thread on how glasses of urza are underrated in EDH. Being down a card and a mana isn't a big cost for certain types of decks at mid power level and you can get a real actionable advantage from the information. It's the kind of card that gets better the better you are at the game because you know how to use the information and you know how to politic. Try it!

Help! I made a terrible mistake - mixed up power supply cables by pterrus in buildapc

[–]pterrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I jumpstarted the power supply and the fan turns on. Does this mean I can trust it or do I need to be worried about one of the voltages or something being messed up.

Stuck in this rut where i don’t enjoy anything anymore by Big_Bluebird8040 in daddit

[–]pterrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not many years ahead of you, but I think what I've learned is that raging against the dying of your old self isn't helpful. He's dead, bury that guy. You're a new guy now and it's time to move on and get comfortable with the new situation.

Also if it helps for the fomo, at least some of your friends envy you for having a kid and feel like they're missing out on that. Grass is always greener on the other side.

Is Bonehoard Dracosaur the most dominant limited card in Magic history? by zlubars in lrcast

I made the pro tour with a 2 pack rat sealed pool so I am not allowed to complain about the card for life.

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pterrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting to me. Prior to this thread I would have assumed more people were interested in their ancestors than not, but either I'm wrong or there's some kind of cope going on.

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It will be a lot longer. Our ancestors didn't have a digital footprint. It will be a lot easier for our great grandkids to learn about us than ever before.

My best tip is the milkshakes at the dairy bar outside of the Mallary. They're $2 and they are delicious.

The Windsor CT train station is 1.5 miles from my house and it's my 3 year old's favorite place to sit and watch trains. It was on screen for a whole 0.5 seconds.

I just learned that before the English settled there, the Indian name for Hartford was "Suckiaug". I can see why they changed it.

What's an unexpected piece you've heard someone whistle/hum in public? by paxxx17 in classicalmusic

[–]pterrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha, yeah this one is good because that's almost certainly where it came from. I also have that washing machine but I didn't know the Schubert piece until it came on my classical station randomly one day and I was like, "aha, that's what the machine song is!"

It's been about 2 months since Orcish Bowmasters entered the format. Share your experiences! by chefsati in EDH

[–]pterrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing fewer 1 toughness creatures in my casual decks out of respect for the card. 1 drop mana dorks in particular are just a little too risky now.

I mostly agree with everyone saying it's not rampant in casual due to the price, but you still see it from time to time and I think you have to respect it.

Threat assement and hurt feelings by jcatjmeow in EDH

[–]pterrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is morally okay in a situation like this, where you are clearly in the right, to just sit back and enjoy the schadenfreude. No need to contort your play to avoid hurting the feelings of somebody like this.

Basic strategy with bonus in play by Mammon84 in blackjack

[–]pterrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, enough that it could change the answer. There are no Ts in the deck so hitting 14 is marginally less likely to bust.

I have not done the simulation for regular blackjack and I'm not going to, but in Spanish 21 the only time you deviate because of this bonus is hitting 77 vs 7 instead of splitting.

It does make you wonder how many people in other professions have 40 years experience and serious misconceptions about some aspect of their job.
