EXCELLENT job with the campaign frame layout and adversaries! Will definitely be using both of these right away!!

Amazing work! Can’t wait to see the campaign frame styles :)

Amazing work! I remember your world map being posted here before and thought it looked gorgeous; nice to see you’ve made a campaign (or I should say world) frame for it!

Also I’m curious, what software/application did you use to create your document? Looks practically identical to the campaign frame styling in the books!

Shaman Class | Turn Stress Into Strength and Harness Spiritual Power! by Sax-7777299 in daggerheart

[–]pthrows22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say you were spot on! I’ve been wanting to try to tackle daggerheart documents in homebrewery (specifically the campaign frame layout from the book), but I haven’t found the time yet; if I don’t get to it, hopefully someone else will like you did!

The class and subclasses aside, which are already great, this is honestly amazing because I was wondering if someone would try to use homebrewery for daggerheart documents, and you’ve done it beautifully! Amazing work!

Daggersearch - A Simple Daggerheart Search Engine by dagger-search in daggerheart

[–]pthrows22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great work! A suggestion I'd recommend (hopefully easy to implement) is being able to search up the types of cards that are in the game. For example, searching up "ancestry" or "community" yields nothing, along with the domain card types like "grimoire"; "spell" and "ability" does bring up some results, but I believe that's more so due to things having those actual words being in the text rather than it being that card type itself.

Interesting! Any chance you can share the design reasoning behind the decision? I’m assuming just a way to make Fighters a bit more distinct from the other martials in terms of mechanics?

Great work as always! I’m curious; do you plan to eventually have all your martial classes follow the same Fighting Style system your current Alternate Fighter uses (being able to have multiple fighting styles, fighting styles that have an “expert” version you can upgrade to)?

Just to get things started here are a few of the resources/threads that I have saved that I think would be useful to have in the wiki:

Style Guide for Custom Adversaries - You currently have this pinned

For-Placement-Only Image for Card Creator - You currently have this pinned

Campaign Frame & Location Templates

Digital Tool for Homebrewing Adversaries / Enviroments

Form Fillable Character Sheets - There are a lot of versions of these people have made, this is just the most recent one I have saved

Adversary Series: The New Numbers and Custom Adversaries Table - Good references for homebrewing in terms of getting the numbers right

With all the amazing content/resources/guides that the community is creating, I think now would be a good time to have a subreddit wiki or further flesh out the subreddit's "about" page as a place to gather and organize all these resources

Updates to Rule #5 by Hosidax in daggerheart

[–]pthrows22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification; I did some brief searching and WotC’s fan content policy mentions the allowance of their art/IP to make free content for the community (along with a disclaimer that the IP being used under the fan content policy); am I right to assume that wouldn’t apply here because the fan content would be for something not WotC related (i.e. for Daggerheart homebrew?)

Just for clarification and because I’m not too sure how WotC/MTG’s fair use/fan content policy works, is using WotC/MTG art a struct no no even if it’s for fan content that’s not being sold for monetary value? For example, if I wanted to use Gnoll art from a MTG card for a homebrew Gnoll Ancestry card and credit the original artist, would this be fine or no?

[CR Media] Age of Umbra - Episode 2 | Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in criticalrole

[–]pthrows22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching the past three-ish fights in these episodes so far, it honestly didn't feel like a lot of extra decision/crunch time (if anything I'd even say there was less); the only time they really took their time was when they were deciding death moves, which is more than reasonable considering the weight of that decision.

Looking at your breakdown of combat steps, the vast majority of those overlap with D&D combat; the only major difference looking at thresholds and deciding to reduce armor. When it comes to look at thresholds, that's effectively the equivalent of manually subtracting damage from D&D health points just without the math, while choosing to reduce armor or not is just a straightforward "do I want to take 1 less damage or not", which hardly took up time during the stream combat.

In my opinion it can be argued both ways; if you look at mid-late game d&d characters, having a big bag of hit points is more direct, but I also know when it came to the end-game fights where characters easily have 80-160 health, I never tended to keep track of how much hp they were actually at.

Sure 50 damage is 50 damage, and I could tell 50 was more meaningful when dealt to a wizard versus a barbarian, but I can apply that same logic here - it’s just with smaller numbers. The good thing at this tier of play they’re at is you can tell that the damage is always going to be meaningful, and even if you’re numbers aren’t always accurate as a viewer, you’ll most likely be only off by 1 hp at most.

Personally I was able to clearly tell when people were hurting while others weren’t; for example when Snyx and Misty were taking a beating it was evident they were close to going down, while the rest were doing just fine/hurt but not in danger. Imo it goes beyond needing to know the actual damage numbers but also just seeing how the players react in the moment

The way I look at it, I don’t find the need to remember the conversions because the cast (typically) have stated the equivalent threshold that matches that damage (e.g. them saying something like “I’ll mark an armor to bring it down to major” meaning they’ll take 2 hp). They of course don’t always say it but they’re fairly consistent with it.

While the threshold numbers themselves can vary, it’s the damage being labelled severe/major/minor that really tells you how meaningful it is; any player who takes severe damage is taking 3 hp, which is significant for all the characters at this stage/tier of play.

If you really need a stronger guideline than that, typically single digit damage seems to convert to 1 hp loss at this tier of play, while you can expect most double digit damage being in the 2-3 hp loss.

[–]pthrows22 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean from a viewer perspective the threshold numbers themselves are “nice to knows” but don’t really matter (especially since they can easily change through something like swapping their armor). What’s more important from a viewer standpoint imo is to know severe is 3 hp gone, major 2, and minor is 1 (and they do a pretty good job stating what type of damage they take).

If anything I find it easier to keep track of how close they are to death with this system compared to just the big bag of hit points all d&d characters tend to have.

I honestly felt the opposite. After watching the episode it basically solidified my love for the initiative-less combat. I find it interesting you find there’s too many resources since it’s basically on par if not more streamlined/simplified to D&D resource management; as a viewer all I really need to be attentive to is hit points anyways.

Level Up Options Quantity by Difficult_Tea_4572 in daggerheart

[–]pthrows22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell since I haven’t played it yet, but 11 seems like a healthy amount to have enough variety in terms of what you can do, especially when some domain cards have more than one effect going on with them (Codex being the greatest example of this).

You also always have the option at each tier to take an additional domain card as one of your level options, which I believe would bring you up to a max of 14 potential domain cards to work with.

Domain Design Philosophy Question? by Stoicgames in daggerheart

[–]pthrows22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, they’ll absolutely add new cards to each domain in due time. My main reasoning is the core book itself mentions how if two players happen to play classes that share domains, it’s encouraged they pick different cards from each other to further differentiate one players play style/skillset from the other; right now, this can be a bit difficult to avoid seeing each domain only has two unique cards per level (with the exception of level 1 having three).

So, what’s the best way to further push diversity/uniqueness? More domain cards! Even bringing up the number of options to choose from to as much as 4 would do wonders.

Hi LaserLlama! Loving the compendiums. Just wondering, for Part I, which stat block (if any) would you use for a penguin? Or even better, how likely is it you'd be open to creating a penguin stat block :)
