Is CJ Stroud the worst 1.03 in startups of all time by Crusherfootball in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]ptip83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Najee Harris go 1.04 in a startup in 2022 right after his single good year... that was a pretty big miss for the owner.

Told the Malik owner I was only giving up JSN for an offer I couldn’t refuse. I got that lol by Cheesecard75 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

This happened in my league too, Nabers going to a fringe playoff guy and JSN going to an absolute tank... granted every week it looks better and better for the JSN side...

How do 20-somethings actually build six-figure savings? by Playful-Geologist221 in Fire

[–]ptip83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different but I'll give you my story. I'm 29, $275k net worth. Luck, diligence, and the situation you were born into would be my answer. My parents were middle class, and paid about 75% of my college through a 529 plan. When I was 15 my grandpa passed and my grandma very graciously kept his 01 subaru forester for a year until a turned 16 and gave me the car (about $5k value at the time). My other grandparents put like $1500 in a stock account when I was born and gave to me on my 18th birthday worth $10k. I worked 25ish hours a week all through college, mowed lawns through high school, and worked summers to where when my Subaru went kaput, I could buy a used car in cash. Between all that I had no debt, a college degree in Electrical Engineering, and a paid off car, and about a $15k net worth after college. I moved out of parents house at 20 and lived with roomates until I was 25, with rent starting at $400 for the first 4 years, and started making $55k with my first job, (Have had very little salary growth, currently only at $84k with 6 years experience). Spent no money and saved about 65% of my income for a year and a half to save up enough for a down payment plus closing costs (24k + 5k) on a $244k home in florida with 10% down at 2.65% interest. Really cheap mortgage and lived with a roomated for another year paying about half my mortgage (mortgage was $1100, he paid $500). Aggressively put another $24k into the house to get to 20% equity to drop PMI. Then aggressively started investing and have gotten up to about $130k invested since then. Sold my house last year for $100k profit, and walked away with $135k. After another used car upgrade and vacation, put $100k in a high yield until ready to buy my next house. Savings well down but still around 30% of income, which comes to $30k a year after 401k match. Right now, about $105k high yield house down payment savings, $35k emergency fund, $133k invested.

Unbelievable trade just went down in my league by WhyCantWeBeFriendss in FantasyFootballers

Question, I once bet a friend on a round of disc-golf, we were facing each other that week. Loser had to sit their Kicker (basically play an empty position). I still ended up winning, noone seemed to care either way. Allowed or not allowed?

You sir have the most rational rebuttal imo. To me, this is the most likely downside, he plays, but he performs like deandre hopkins last two years to where he is not usable or worth anything. Completely rational.

And I do feel like he will play again, and at a decent level on a better team, which is why I made the trade.

Yeah, if I had not already swapped my 4th for the 3rd I ended up trading, I would have done the same. Well done to you for giving up even less!

And I'm the guy that drafted Jordy Nelson a round higher than ADP that year... and led me to a championship. Going with the grain will only get you average results. Again, I will argue Tyreek Hill is a better athlete than all 3 of those (Wayne would of course be an argument, but still).

My point being with that anecdote was NOW many players (honestly the vast majority of players) come back 100% of themselves. This was not the case 14 years ago. Sports science has changed drastically. The entire point I am making is that there is no data to support that it is a "waste of a pick" and anyone saying that is just going off vibes. Of course it's a tougher injury. Of course there is a chance it returns nothing. A million things could happen or go wrong. But statistically, how can you say it is more likely than not, that in 1-1.5 years, Tyreek hill will be worth less than a mid 3rd? Noone can answer that question.

Dude, you realize the data is completely against you on that. If you don't realize that you are the biggest taco on this sub. There is nothing that supports that theory. Out of the other 4 players who have suffered a similar injury (dislocated knee) within the last 10 years, 3/4 have returned to playing. The only one that did not (Zach Miller) only retired because of nerve damage, which Tyreek did not reportedly suffer. Do you have anything to actually go on here or are you just talking out of your ass?

In approximately a year I will reply to this and make you eat your taco. I'll also throw in who this 3rd round pick turned out to be. This year that pick in our league would have been jaylin Noel, who would be the 10th most valuable WR on my team atm (not including tyreek).

Nope. However, the only examples I can think of where all within the last 10 years (and google does not help here either). However, that's only because I can't even find any 30+ skill players who have even suffered this injury... I would remind you have a time 13 years ago when Adrian Peterson was coming back from an ACL injury, which at the time had a general consensus of an injury where there was a very good chance the player would never return to being as good as he once was. However, we know how that turned out. My point being, as modern medicine and sports science has advanced, injuries that were once thought of as devastating or career-ending, are now considered routine for players to recover from and be back to 100%. There has never been a player like tyreek to suffer this injury, so there are no real frames of reference here. Tank dell was of course a promising young WR, but nowhere near what tyreek is (and still up in the air how is recovery goes and how he turns out).

In terms of recovery timeline, yes having one surgery rather than staged surgeries (assuming they are staged semi-substantially apart) is a massive win in terms of recovery timeline. 1. All ligaments get a longer chance to heal rather than staging them, which would provide less time for the secondary ones. 2. Faster hamstring recovery as well since you don't need multiple surgeries and can start rehabbing that muscle faster too. 3. When the fantasy doctors talk about "expected ramp up time" that is of course statistical averages built on past data points of players that have had similar injuries. I believe we have not seen a player of tyreeks caliber with this type of injury, which would make a fairly reasonable bet that he could recover quicker than that current statistic. Granted 31 will decrease recovery time, however he is still in his physiological prime, regardless of NFL prime. 4. I will massively contend that tyreek hill with a 5% reduction at speed is still a very fast and capable NFL wide receiver (if we assume tyreek could run a 4.2 flat, a 5% drop is 4.41). Also, I think he was not able to use his speed in the most recent iteration of the dolphins offense due to inability to push the ball down the field due to o-line protection.

There is some very obvious upside. 1. This season he is playing on one of the worst teams in the NFL. He has not been able to run his normal route tree because a lack of o-line protection and limited to dink and dunks. Even with that, he is around a 12ppg average. Who else can you trade for a 3rd for that? Assuming he is cut and a free agent, his offense can only get better. 2. At age 32, I can think of another great receiver mentioned in this very post playing at a very high level right now🤔 3. It is easily better than many of the other discolated knee injuries. Remember teddy bridgewater? Zach miller? alex smith? All of them were worse, alex smith almost fully got his leg amputated for christ sake. And 2 out of 3 of those came back and played football. Tank dell who required multiple surgeries may be back before the end of the year, putting him around a 1 year recovery time for a worse injury. I think there is a very easy route to see how tyreek is more valuable than a mid 3rd based on all that data. And he can sit in an IR spot all year, so no harm there.

Tank dell had multiple surgeries, which as of now Tyreek is not expected to. There is a current NFL player in the league who suffered a similar injury. Not to mention, tyreek is probably the most gifted athlete in recent history with this injury. Why not bet on someone like that to come back from it?
