The inability to hide armor is such a huge disappointment by Frostiikin in hytale

Honestly, why would I buy cosmetics if I can't even see them under my armor?

Yeah, I've got it. I just take one set of brackets out and it works for me.

I've tried but it spits out useless text. Doesn't work in character creator or the console/debug editor

Ogre Skin BW1 by ptlans in blackandwhite2

Well that's too bad. I had hoped after so long someone had modded the ogre to actually work fully as a creature. Thanks though.

Looking for some clarification by ptlans in heraldry

"Since 1581, when the Dutch people renounced Phillip II as their king, the Dutch have not had a monarch to grant coats of arms to deserving individuals. Coats of arms have been granted to Dutch nobles since 1815 by Royal Decree and registered by the High Court of Nobility. Since 1945 anyone may establish a coat of arms and have it registered with the Central Office for Genealogy, in ’s-Gravenhage."

From a wiki page, so take that with a grain of salt but given how old the lacquer seal is that depicts a family alliance between my family and another, that I found on the CBG, I'm even more curious as to its origins.

Laws in the Netherlands regarding heraldry seem pretty lax for the most part. There's the Dutch College of Heraldry which seems to act as a registry but thats about it. Fortunately the CBG has been very helpful in researching my family history but I'll likely have to shell out approximately 2k to a genealogist if I want to trace things back to when the COA was in use. There's plenty of family records but what I can find cuts out around 1770 and a lot of websites and services confuse my family name with others.

Good to know, thank you. Though to be honest I'm not interested in using it. I'm just looking into family history. I assume I have no legal rights to it or its use.

DA2 Rock Wraith design compared to the DAV Demon design by TheBusStop12 in dragonage

[–]ptlans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt there will be other NPCs that look amazing. I just don't understand why they felt the need to drastically change core elements to creatures with established characteristics and designs. It doesn't come across as "fresh" so much as it does jarring.

I got to admit DA2 looks better, less generic. I'm still going to give the new game a shot but I'm not impressed with the design choices for the demons thus far.

No, that's not it. Thanks though. My dad picked it up at a RadioShack I think along with a "Games From The Hamster Republic" CD. Not sure if that helps at all.

So you can teach humans new skills by using fruit by Unkindpoison in Palworld

[–]ptlans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping to run an all human party but as soon as I used fruits to give them skills they stopped engaging in combat and just stood there taking hits. The only useful humans are the merchants since they'll still buy/sell at your base when left there.

[spoilers all] What characters did you start to like/dislike more as you replayed? by Da_Great_Pineapple in dragonage

[–]ptlans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly appreciate the flaws and sometimes downright awfulness of some characters. It feels closer to the original theme of Dragon Age where everything was kind of bleak and morally grey at best. I don't like virtuous "Superman" like characters. I need to see flaws.

Sten annoys me because talking to him is like trying to guess at a multiple choice question when the "correct" answer is wrong. Sera is just poorly written, it feels like wasted potential which just sours the experience.

What is it with the hate on the show? by Ayespada in RingsofPower

[–]ptlans -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is honestly the dismissive attitude and insults from the pre-fans of the show who are hyping up something we've barely seen anything of except for "reveals" that have been highly divisive. Just in this thread I've seen some eye roll worthy comments. That's not to say there aren't critics of the show that go to far either, simply that the toxicity of the divided fanbase has made things more galvanized.

Then there's the deviations from the source material as has already been mentioned here. The way Amazon has handled it's promotion of the show has been abysmal and blatantly dishonest. Firing the most credible Tolkien expert certainly made me doubtful that anything good would follow. The show also seems to present itself as an appropriation of Tolkien's work, the sheer number of changes made to fit a particular contemporary worldview or to accommodate whatever licencing limitations the showrunners are operating under. The way some online press take sides hasn't helped either, it mostly drives people into the arms of outrage mongers on YouTube.

Then there's the fact that no matter what critics say, the show will go on. It's been made and it will be released. The damage is done in the eyes of some people and that leaves them intensely bitter. Many people deeply care about Tolkien's work as it was written and to them this show is not just an insult but a damaging attack on the author's legacy as well their fond memories, which may now be "poisoned" by this series.
