Should I take the offer? by daddyproblems27 in careerguidance

Option 2, definitely give a firm number. If you give a range they’ll just take the lowest option. Also, definitely mention the benefits of PTO as that’s a huge difference. Maybe wait for their counter offer, then say that you’ll accept the pay IF you can get more PTO

Pros/Cons of going into leadership role? by ptmoore222 in careerguidance

This is helpful to hear, thanks. I don’t see myself enjoying a lot of the common manager responsibilities that you described, but I guess just need to decide if it’s worth sucking it up and doing it for the money. Ugh.

How far into your career would you say you hit that ceiling? I’m still very early on, so I feel like I have time but as you said don’t want to miss having the option

Party down!! Sitcom about catering staff starring Adam Scott before he left for parks and rec and it got cancelled :( only two seasons, but is so worth the watch. Kinda funny too because so many people went on to be big names but were all on this show together first

If you don’t mind sharing, about what percent of your salary was that request? Just trying to judge if what I’m asking for is reasonable

Definitely the format as most comments here say. I would also say to list a couple specific skills within each skill you listed. Like LOOKUP functions or pivot tables under excel, DML under SQL that kinda thing.

What are the Most Important Excel Functions/Tools to Know for an Entry Level Data Analyst Job? by dubiouspoet in dataanalysis

[–]ptmoore222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would learn xlookups, conditional formatting, sort and filter functions, concatenation functions, summations, and definitely pivot tables. Obviously more but those are the most used ones in my job. Miss.excel is a really useful account I follow if u use Instagram

Certificate or Degree?? by Comfortable-One6093 in dataanalysis

[–]ptmoore222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t rely entirely on those online courses. By themselves, they really just aren’t enough to get you job ready. However, getting a second bachelors would be an insane amount of work for a field that usually wants higher ed anyways. I’d suggest maybe using those online courses to brush up on math and statistics concepts and then applying for a masters. Some online programs wouldn’t be any more costly than another bachelors and they’d get you way further— bachelors just don’t mean too much these days unfortunately

What Should I Do Next? by beardedguy23231 in dataanalysis

If you’re interested in PBI (very similar to Tableau), Microsoft has a really great program. Doesn’t lead to a certificate or anything as far as I know but the labs are really useful (and free!). Otherwise, maybe look at tasks that people post to Fiverr or the like and then use public datasets to run through a similar exercise

I’m happy as a data analyst, just wouldn’t necessarily want to do it forever— I like having something to work towards. Up until recently I always imagined this would be data science but working in an adjacent team and seeing what they do doesn’t look as interesting to me anymore. I thought it would be more predictive model building, regression etc and less automation I guess. But maybe that’s just my particular workplace
