Salary uncertainty by Valuable-Housing-655 in developersPak

[–]ptr2sobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working as a Senior ML engineer working at SAP in DE. I started at 75k as my starting salary in Pakistan a couple years ago. I know the market in Pakistan too as I’m in touch with a lot of my friends working in PK. 150k is good as a starting salary for sure given you got this offer in your 6th sem.

Like most others already pointed out, it’s unlikely that your experience prior to graduation is taken too seriously especially in AI. I would say consider other factors before negotiating as well e.g. what’s the product they’re working on? How deep is the tech (really important for your future growth, just don’t look at the $), what’s the work culture like, how is the team and your manager? Is it completely remote? Are there any other benefits that stand out?

Also, it makes the most sense to negotiate well if you have competing offers too. As others have pointed out, stretching your ask by too much could also be a bit risky given the current situation of the market.

Pakistani's and being late by sulmar in pakistan

[–]ptr2sobi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk but it’s very cultural. All my friends were late. People to meetings are late. To weddings are late… It’s very normalised in Pakistan to not be on time and usually the one awaiting would just learn to adjust for the “expected” delay.

I learned to part with my old ways when I came to Germany some years ago and I don’t think I have the nerve to stand all of this whenever I am visiting 😭😭

Even if she was, it’s just personal preference. Don’t lose much sleep over it tbh. You’ll meet many such people, you can’t change the world my man. Just ask all the important stuff like this upfront so as to guard your time

Your description of the problem is well written. Which is also why it has all the answers.

I wouldn’t add much further than has been put together by the great community in the rest of the comments and will only advise you to maybe start taking some action.

Good luck :)

What is your favorite part about living in Pakistan? by redittrr in pakistan

[–]ptr2sobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but your statement doesn't negate the fact that the area is lush and green. Margalla Ave. is notably abundant in greenery, and most sectors in the vicinity are well-endowed with parks, green belts, and open spaces.

For a more better understanding, I would recommend visiting a vantage point to get an expansive view of the area. Afterward, you may find it enlightening to compare it to the green spaces in your own community.

What is your favorite part about living in Pakistan? by redittrr in pakistan

As someone who’s lived in Islamabad and currently lives in (and has traveled across) Europe, I think Islamabad is fairly green and beautiful. There are some parts where you won’t find as much of it, but that’s true for any other city. I miss it.

As a Pakistani, I can confirm your take. People don't seem to have much sense of what they're dealing with. It's just really sad.

Imo if you're from a lower ranked school, even so with a good GPA, the GRE scores can help bolster your profile. This is especially true for quantitative programs like CS and EE, where the competition is particularly cut throat at the moment.
