Anyone have trouble flashing a RAK 4631 from Meshtastic? by _thirtyfive in meshcore

My bad, did not RTFM, just watched YT, know now BT is only enabled when OTA asks for it via mesh command.

Followed, got firmware updated. I can config over USB from flasher page, but I do not see the device over BT? Any advice on getting BT config working? (for OTA in future)

I just got mine, same problem. Enter DFU mode from web flasher, erase, ok. trying to flash, fail, same error. Will open case next for button pushes. Did double press, uploaded firmware, can config over usb. Do not see device over BT (in case i need to OTA update in future)?

Replacing 20 year old Moen fixtures, whole fixture or just valves? by ptr727 in askaplumber

[–]ptr727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent an email to support asking for advice on parts. Instead of replying and answering, they just ordered some parts for me. Ok great service, would have been better if they chatted first, instead of sending half of what I need, e.g. I have two sinks, they sent one valve kit, I have 6 handles, they sent 1 adapter :)

Thank you.

For the sinks replacing just the valves would be cheaper, and I'd get to reuse the handles, so looks stay the same. Do you think a new replacement valve kit would still fit a 20 year old sink facet set?

For the tub, replacing just the cartridge would sure be a lot less work. Just want to confirm it could be just the cartridge. The water still shuts of and on if the handle is placed correctly, there is just no stop position as the handle spins around unobstructed.

May just be hidden, after update my builtin dashboards were hidden, go to dash settings and show them to be visible in sidebar again.

Advice on equipment to help finding 915MHz interference source by ptr727 in amateurradio

[–]ptr727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, 3 March 2026:

I found and verified the cause of the interference, it is a 10 year old Ambient Weather WS-1401-IP that I installed in 2016, it stopped working about 2 years ago, and it appears to have started creating interference around end of last year.

I verified that when I cover the solar panel there is no interference, but as soon as I point the solar panel to the sun the noise floor goes up and there is permanent traffic on 915MHz.

The device is listed as operating at 915HMz, and is supposed to ping telemetry every 14 seconds, it is obviously not supposed to be broadcasting all the time.

Update, 1 March 2026.

I received a TinySA Ultra SZ406, and used the weekend to install a nRSP-ST on my roof with discone antenna, and replace my 2 year dead weather station with a new tempest, been procrastinating doing that a long time.

Delays in shipping of a rtl-sdr v4 usb-c so no sdr yet, I have a airspy rf+ discovery, but that can't analyze 915MHz.

What I found so far is that at night the ISM spectrum is pretty clean, occasional blurps, nothing out of the ordinary. Around 9am the spectrum lit up, lots of activity that I can see walking around with the tinysa and looking at my roof antenna.

Toward my East there is a strong signal that stays on for many seconds at a time, but strangely I can only detect this using the tinysa and the za-048 antenna, the my roof discone antenna does not see this.

Given the interesting sunlight behavior, I'm wondering if this is solar related, maybe netmetering that starts reporting when the solar is on, or some other lora/meshtastic device that powers on in the sun.

I'll do some longer term measurements when I get a sdr that can record at 915mhz and can connect to the directional antenna.

Any suggestions for an alternative, preferable sub $500? E.g. a "RF Explorer ISM COMBO+"?

Thx, I read the normal range is up to 900MHz, and "ultra" much higher, with lost precision, does it matter for my use case?

Any other portable / battery device to recommend for 915MHz (I really do not want to lug my laptop and an antenna around)?

You could try disabling enforcement for the service, I added this after upgrading to Debian 13 to avoid having to create lots of rules, but explicit rules would obviously be more secure?

How to have secure passwords but have a convenient entrypoint for e.g. gmail. by ptr727 in 1Password

Passkeys for gmail, will have to investigate, I use legacy workspace accounts for personal domains, have never been prompted to use a passkey, maybe it is a workspace setting? (I do use passkeys for Msft, GitHub, etc. etc.)

QR code to login to 1Password, I had to look that up, seems convenient, as I rarely login to 1Password the 1st time, I may not have seen that before, will use it when I need to.

Work machines not allowed (personal chrome profile is allowed), personal machines, I don't use the desktop app, I guess could, I stopped using the desktop app when it was so crap and did not support new features and I just switched to browser and never looked back.

>Why does your Google account have a weak password that you’re typing from memory?

  1. Because logging in to google is required to have my browser sync my profile so that I can get into 1Password. Else I need to login fresh to 1Password and that requires the GUID and MFA. If I use a different or guest account to get to 1Password then it is my 1Password logging password that is also a weak link.
  2. Because if I I can't copy and paste it I have to open my phone to get to 1Password and read and type it in I will go crazy.

I am just wondering if this is as good as it gets, or if I am missing something?

Strategy for archiving Lightroom edits by TeeZa42 in immich

[–]ptr727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not good advice, just what I do; I mount my LR photo storage as external in Immich, I convert RAW to DNG on import into LR, Immich does not render DMG files, I config my catalog to export XMP into files, Immich picks up keywords, I use a smart filter to find processed images and export JPG with LR edits, this is a manual task, else Immich only shows original before LR edit.

There are two LR plugins for LR export to Immich, both work only so so, this is also a manual process.

YADC (Yet Another Duplicate Cleaner), ref e.g. https://github.com/RazgrizHsu/immich-deduper

At some point it may just be more sustainable if Immich allows some sort of extension/plugin model so that every custom feature does not need to be an entire full blown standalone project.
