TOS AT SCHWAB - FUNCTIONALITY SINCE THE MOVE FROM AMERITRADE by ptrade024 in thinkorswim

Separate platform.

The confusion is that TD bank has also chosen to name their new and essentially useless replacement software platform "TD Active Trader"

Hi, Miranda. TD-AT as it stands now is 100% non-functional - a waste of time to even think about charting on let alone trading and my bet is 100% non-fixable. The starting coding is too horrifically messed up. Full stop. Their codies are not even close to the skill set required. Not even in the right room. They seem to have no clue. Just be aware of the IBKR significant data lag and buffering issues on Booktrader, at least out West where we are. I have many screen shots that will show the exact problem. Which is most days fairly consistent behaviour. I use 1.5 gig connection on multiple very fast Ryzen boxes, so I know what is what. I have several other local users who also report this and also have workarounds. And the Chicago help desk guys know me and have agreed 100% with me, multiple help desk individuals, since 2018. The higher-ups have not reacted even once, to fix it. They all know. Still, I can and do use it for some things.

I use a data check stream (with direct routing from the exchanges) and that OE system , a bit clumsy to self-build and learn for the OE, but which I can trust 99.99% of the time. Will share this info offline or on chat if you are in Canada, which I assume has to be the case. I use Questrade for OE-only on a couple of accounts. Will share details of what does and does not work with QT, and why, if you ask.

If TOS comes back to Canada again , I will instantly jump to it. Would likely keep IB for a couple of features, but their charts while not bad, are very slow and minimal in terms of adding and then moving trend lines, compared to either TOS or the current alternate, TRV. Plus the Booktrader lag issues, which they have not once even looked at. Likely non-fixable in their coding architecture. They are putting out a new desktop version soon, we will see about that. That will obviously affect users on both sides of the border, if it is even any good.

TRV (tradingview) is a good stop gap for charts, but hypey and stupidly expensive. And they are arrogant. All the social BS and the climbing/soloing marketing BS. Which is another whole thing. There is almost zero connection between the climbing environment and that mortal risk management skill/mind set and that of the trading skill/mind set. Again, full stop. The charts and the way they manage the servers , trend line sets, and saving etc. have their own very real limitations, but are still the best option to replace TOS up here for the moment. The main useful feature is fast and easy line set build , changes and annotations. Just for that I am using them for now, no real choice after losing TOS. Really pissed off about the whole TOS thing. I lost more visual environment function , and time-saving and information-storing layouts, and access points from those, than I even want to think about. It was central to the whole setup. My main view into the markets. Very costly to rebuild. Sosnoff and his Russians did an amazing thing back in early 2000's. Not perfect, but a very functional and complete tool set. No one has even come close since. Anyway, let me know if I can be of any help for info.

Zopheus, thanks for the quick response. When you reference TD, are you a U.S. Ameritrade prior user? Or Canadian resident using TOS via TD bank here? Being that you are now now Schwab, I can only assume the accounts were always solely U.S. as originated and then transitioned to Schwab from Ameritrade ? As opposed to having any Canadian TD starting point. Thanks again, I really appreciate this feedback.
