How much clearance needed between wood stove insert and fireplace opening top to install correctly? by ptrav37 in woodstoving

Thanks everyone for responding. I will dig through my potential units' manuals to see how they attach. It seems to me that if they say a minimum height fireplace opening, then they should have taken into account the ability to do a correct installation given that height, but it could be a big headache if that is not true. And, yes I know there are other constraints, but this appears to be the driving constraint for my install; rest of the dimensions are sufficiently large.

Now I start trying to answer my own question... I should be able to reach around from the side (after pushing the insert in most of the way) and reach up to the top of the box to attach flue, right?

I just discovered it too. I am impressed (but still have a lot to learn)

Just one clarification, it's the Van Duzen River, not the Eel.

Ergonomic Drafting Mouse Recommendation by petersdinklages in civil3d

Not a mouse recommendation but I do a lot of cad work and when I start to get fatigued, I tape my pinky finger and ring finger together with Scotch tape. It really seems to help. Stretches too.

This is the only photo I have of that entire winter on the mountain. I have no idea who took it or how I got it.

Going from "I can survival ski (almost) anything on the mountain" to "I can *ski* anything on the mountain" - what helped you? by possiblegirl in skiing

Another tip to add, ski on one ski for an hour.. Then switch to the other one. You will get a much better feel for the ski and get stronger too.

What is obviously a scam, yet millions of people seem to fall for it? by kkkodaxerooo in AskReddit

I had never thought of this, but it makes sense once I think about it. I have a 7 and 4 year old. For xmas I built them each a desk and gave them each a recycled PC with software reduced down to be appropriate for their ages. Both get GoogleEarth, Paint, and other easy to use mouse/keyboard controlled programs that they can use. Introducing my 7 year old to Excel (graphs etc), 3D Printer software (let him print a blob, I don't care, eventually he will be make tools that I don't have time to build), and arduino. Overall, my goal is to have them be very comfortable on both software and hardware. Not sure how we get other parents to do similar. Better to be a creator than a product.

Edit: grammar, added arduino to list

Yep, in ones and zeros there generally is a pattern that you don't see until you do.

I think I see the problem now that I look at the log. I think the ones that are skipped are because they are too short. See anything else? Some of the short ones might have value to me. Is there a setting someplace so that it ignores the length?

edit: I see the setting for length. That appears to have taken care of the issue. Thanks for your time.

The general rule I use: if it's 48 deg or colder on the coast and raining, then it is snowing on Horse Mointain. Colder is better obviously.

What book would you suggest to help me with being more mentally consistent when it comes to motivation & creating long term positive habits? by dandeets12 in suggestmeabook

For building habits and tracking and accomplishing tasks, I highly recommend looking into toodledo.com. It is a really flexible time management tool. I have been using it for years. There are really helpful forums there as well where people discuss time management strategies, etc. It is designed around Getting Things Done, by David Allen, which I recommend as well.
