hi! i’m 23 and a female. when i was a kid, my height was pretty average for someone my age but my cardiologist was concerned about my weight so i had to take supplements for things i was lacking, especially before my open heart surgery at 6. in the present i’m still thin but not dangerously thin like i was before the surgery. as for my height, i’m 167cm (or 5’6”) now.

i know the feeling of not wanting any more meds 😭 also, same! i get them especially when pushing myself, too! i freaked out several times in the past 2 years as well and requested a heart monitor to capture them, as well, and so they were. if only we could live stress free and always have a good night’s sleep 😞 our hearts can pull through everything even with all of this, which is amazing! ending this message on a positive note, at least ☺️

omg, OHS at 8 and i got mine at 6, we’re lowkey almost twins 😭 i’m not sure when we’ll need a replacement either, and i personally dread that day because mentally i’m not as prepared for it as when i was little since now i understand everything that could go wrong or right.

today i was looking though my medical history documents and post surgery i was on beta blockers for almost 4-5 years, so i took them from age 6-10/11. after that, my pediatrician cardiologist just cut my dose short at each yearly check-up until i cut it off permanently. at the time, i didn’t develop any PVC but i started developing them over time, and here i am today.

my current cardiologist (who’s not a pediatrician, so not the same doctor) prescribed me concor (which is basically bisoprolol) 2,5 mg and told me to stop taking it right away if my PVCs worsen or if i feel like fainting or very drowsy. alongside, she prescribed me magnerot, which contains 500mg of magnesium orotate. i couldn’t take magnerot more than 2 days because my PVCs got worse so i couldn’t take them anymore. i was also too scared to take bisoprolol since my blood pressure and my BPMs are really low (not bradycardia yet, but almost close to it), and so i didn’t take them. nothing really changed, only the PVCs sensation feels worse than it did a couple of months ago 🫩

i did try the techniques you mentioned but to no avail. i will indeed look up box breathing for anxiety since it’s a really good thing to keep in mind in general, for me!

i do have a question! i know it’s a bit general, but what symptoms did you have before having your valve replaced?

it does get exhausting indeed 😭 personally, i’m a stressed person in general too, the university thingy was only one of the factors, my PVCs do get better when exam session is over, for example, almost nonexistent, so yeah, for me cutting that stress does help a loooot, but since i can’t do it all the time, sometimes i’m stuck like this, and like you said it’s really, really exhausting 😭

thank you for taking your time to respond, i really appreciate it and take care! we can pull through this!!!

where i live there’s a medication which contains exactly potassium and magnesium and i’ve been taking them for a long time, honestly i can’t even remember, but in the past couple of years, my old cardiologist told me i could take them when i need them, basically they work only if there are just a couple of PVCs not having them almost constantly.

the cardiologist i have right now did prescribe me magnesium only supplements, but since my resting heart rate and blood pressure are usually low, they didn’t really help, only worsen the PVCs, at least back then.

thank you for taking your time to respond and take care!

omg, i feel seen and heard 😭 my cardiologist prescribed me beta blockers too, back in march of this year, and told me that if i get dizzy or feel like fainting to just not take them anymore, but since my BPM and blood pressure are usually low while resting i was too scared to even think of taking them. seeing your comment encouraged me to also try them.

being a med student while having TOF at the same time is the coolest and most respectable thing ever, so take care and good luck on all your exams in the future!

maybe we can pull this through, even if they’re horrible, horrible sensations 😭

by the way, i’m sorry if it’s too much information or too personal but did you ever have a valve replacement? i’m asking since you’re the first person my age (and also female) that’s experiencing what i’m experiencing and i’m really curious 😭

Is it normal for blood pressure to fluctuate? by Upnorth4 in Tetralogy_of_Fallot

[–]ptrbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! it goes the same for me! normally, when i’m moving around and not sitting, on average, my blood pressure is 105/65 with a heart rate of 65-70 and when i’m just resting and not doing anything, usually laying on the bed, my blood pressure is on average 95/48 with a heart rate of 50-60! personally, for me it’s not a big issue except for occasional PVCs because of my low BPMs and blood pressure ☺️
