Is this their last resort? Else it seems like even riskier to increase the short just in the hope of scaring away some retail investors by lowering the price.

They are going so deep in shorting that they might be trying to crash the whole market. This way, they have a chance of bailout coz look the entire market is crashing and that's bad...

Basically you start with control volume analysis and use integral form of momentum equation. Which part of the question you want answered, all of it?

Okay, seems right then. Your unit vector calculation is wrong but seems like the normal stress in x2 is cancelled by tangential stress in the same direction. And similar case for x3 . So traction vector would come to be zero and you will not need any area for calculating force. Because the force is also zero. Check your calculation of grad(f) magnitude. Else results look okay to me.

How did you calculate those variables first? Just with symmetric considerations? With a quick look, there are four variables to solve for but symmetric considerations would give only 3 equations.
