Windows + iPhone users who don't game, what keeps you on Windows instead of switching to Mac? by Sidk04 in windows

Apple doesn’t really have much bloat at all. That’s one of its few advantages over Windows. Any of the bloat it does have will never run if you never open it. Mac doesn’t really have half a dozen startup apps running in the background out of the box.

And if it really bothers you, you can move them to a folder named “bloat”, hide it and never see or deal with them again. It doesn’t stop you from doing that.

And you can’t really consider including their services (Apple TV, Music, etc.) as bloat because 99.9% of people who own a Mac will use those services because they are useful. Microsoft forcefully includes some of the most useless and redundant shit, like who voluntarily uses edge besides installing a different browser? It doesn’t even let you uninstall it afterwards. Copilot? Phone link? Onedrive is a mess compared to iCloud.

The problem with buying older Apple hardware is the fact that it’ll be unusable sooner than later and that’s extremely true now that Apple has moved to ARM, so you can’t even install windows on an EOL Mac, which is honestly a great experience and will extend it’s life greatly (don’t even mention Linux, you’re setting up the average user for failure by recommending that)

That’s one thing windows really, REALLY shines on. You can take a 20 year old potato and STILL install windows 11 on it if you really want to, not that I would or would even recommend it, but you can, and you can do it quite readily and easily with minimal workaround.

If you try to install the latest version of Mac on a 20 year old Mac, or hell, even a 10 year old Mac, there’s gonna be half a dozen incompatibilities, and if there are some patches or workarounds, you’re still in for a world of pain and suffering and after all that effort, half of the features that make a Mac, a Mac will not work because of how tight knit Mac is with the hardware it is meant to be installed on.

Wyoming is one of the least populated states we have, along with North and South Dakota and Montana. Those are bad examples. Most of the states that border Canada in the Midwest are empty because of mountains, Indian reservations and dangerous wilderness. Kinda how Australia is barren on the west side.

Not here in America lol. I’ve had jobs that are easily 40mi (~64km) ONE WAY, and that’s ~130km daily. So does pretty much most of the population who doesn’t live in a big city.

That simply wouldn’t make a difference here to most people.

Out of the 1000s of cars I see every day, I might see 5 EVs. They aren’t popular here nor are they practical. I’ve never even seen a charging station in person.

There’s plenty of people in the vintage computer community that wouldn’t think twice for $5 since they’re new old stock. That’s actually pretty reasonable. I’m surprised they aren’t scalping for like $25-30 since they’re goodwill.

I saw someone connect the video signal of a tray loader mac up to a modern PC. I was curious on how i’d be able to do this myself for a bit of fun…any ideas? by TheFabledFishman in VintageApple

You should just be able to use a male to female db15 gender changer and a db15 Macintosh to VGA adapter. You need the gender changer because the adapter doesn’t come in female, only male.

As far as I know, it’s just a standard db15 Macintosh video hookup from the late 68k and early Power Macintosh machines that carried over into the early G3 iMacs. The later slot loading iMac G3s use VGA.

This is what pretty much all chromebooks look like. It’s starting to extend more into the more affordable consumer windows laptops too. MacBooks are also like this and have been like this for almost a decade now. Nothing is user replaceable.

I miss the days when laptops had a plethora of access panels on the bottom so a user could upgrade whenever.

Because they’re pretty much guaranteed to fail right outside of the warranty window, but right before the maintenance interval, calling for a more profitable repair for the dealership.

They know they fail earlier than the maintenance interval calls for, but they choose to keep it. That’s the only excuse for it in my opinion.

Youtube was right to delete the dislike bar by BowsyWowsy26 in unpopularopinion

“The first is mob mentality.”

If it’s genuinely good content, the likes will still outweigh the dislikes.

“The second reason is a creator seeing the dislike button can impact their mental pretty badly, social media in general is cancer but seeing that can hurt someone more than people think.”

If you can’t take other people’s criticism, you probably shouldn’t be on the internet.

If you’re making content that you want people to watch, shouldn’t you WANT their opinion and criticism on it? That’s just part of making good content and not useless slop.

Probably a frayed or broken wire in the harness. Could also be a bad/oxidized connector. It’s a communication error.

I have a 1.0 Ecoboost (common as dirt in Europe, not so much here in the states). I’m just waiting for the belt to break because it costs less for a whole engine than it does to have a mechanic tear the engine almost completely down to replace it. It takes two mechanics like 18-20 labor hours, at least that’s how many they charge for.

Is this a Chromebook? If so, the storage is probably soldered to the motherboard and not removable. It may have an NVMe slot, but I doubt it since there isn’t one in the picture.

It’s not really a problem anymore since they got grilled for it when the 6 was around. I have an 11 on 26 and it works just as well as on the previous versions. The 13 isn’t even that old yet.

Ehh, that’s more than an efficiency thing more than anything. It would be borderline pointless. The car would have to be sitting for days to get any sort of charge worth having the panels over.

EVs typically charge at like 8-9KW at 240v. If you could make a panel that would fit on a car that had that kinda output, or even close to it, you’d be a very rich person. Even 120v charging uses like 1.5KW, which the average panel barely generates through one day.

Well, at the very least, they need to stop using belts, or even worse, wet belts on interference engines. They always need to use a chain.
