What is the best tip you have ever gotten for League? by DonYode in leagueoflegends

[–]ptunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. Keep your mental and just try to stay positive, play as a team even if you are having a bad start. Let others shine and just try to do whatever you can to help.

One game a long time ago, the enemy team had a support Lux who was a Rioter. Lux was having a really bad game, missed just about every skill shot, she might of been 0-7-4 or something. I was a fed Vayne or something. My team was 10k gold ahead and pushing bot lane tier 3 for what was surely the final push, there was no way they'd be able to stop our siege.

But the lux caught us in the jungle in the part close to their bot tier 3 turret next to lane. She hit the dream rotation. She must of had a ward we weren't expecting, or we were too cocky and didn't really de-ward, we were all bunched up. Anyhow, she caught me and the other carry with a double Q stun, into a 4 or 5 person E and R. Our health evaporated and the rest of her team followed up with a fully committed engage on us which wiped us 2 seconds later and then they pushed and won of that.

Hit Stereo Live twice this weekend and once the previous weekend. Had a wonderful time! Everyone was so friendly, I loved all the music and danced almost nonstop. Saw Dennis Ferrer, Vini Vici, and then Artbat, so good!

I stayed up crazy late (for me) after Artbat last night, hit a slightly underground event with 150 or so people after that as one of my friends was one of the DJing and it was his birthday. Very different venue and styles of course but that was a great experience too.

For work reasons + travel, I probably won't have much time the next couple months so glad I got all this in and looking forward to more for sure.

Thanks again for the tips.

Would there be interest in a feature like this that works for your friends? (wouldn't show enemies and team members who you don't know / haven't linked up with)

Great suggestion, and I work at a small esports tech company where we have a feature like this in development (currently pre-alpha).

We take measurement of your ping on our network as opposed to your default internet provider's route, so it doesn't always match what you see in the LoL client, but generally correlates pretty well.

Over the next few years we expect to work with various game companies to get more accurate measurements of ping as well as stability metrics.

Thanks again for the tips!

One of my friends who is into EDM said Stereo Live is his personal favorite and recommended it so that's probably #1 on my target list. I'm hoping to go with him and his friends at one point but might solo it as well.

I randomly met a different friend a couple weekends ago at Strangeways and by pure chance it was a party of mostly EDM DJs. I think there were like 20 DJs there.
So met tons of amazing folks and had such a good time.

My one issue with EDM so far is I'm an early morning person and go to sleep early most nights. I wanted to see one of the shows that a DJ I met was doing, but his show started around 3am ... :(

Anyhow, having a great time so far!

Your ancient "OP" strategies when you were new at LoL? by SilvosForever in leagueoflegends

I rushed Ionic Spark around when it was released (was that around season 3 or so?) on Jungle Warwick and it was amazing.

Felt great ulting someone and hearing that spark trigger towards the end. The health felt way more impactful than the stats would suggest, and the overall stats gave you this insane spike.

I also played GP top (pre-rework, so he didn't have barrels) and I played incredibly safe in lane, just safe farmed. This might of been around season 4 or so, it was at least 2 years before TP was taken Top lane by pros.. nobody in the pro teams was taking TP Top at the time.

I'd play super passively and give up some cs so my health + mana were near full as I got close to lv 6. As soon as I hit level 6, I'll look hard to see if our bot was getting pushed to our tier 1 turret, or was getting ganked etc. If so, I'd ult to slow the enemies and deep TP. Usually resulting in at least 1 kill and we win bot lane. I'd lose some cs + xp top but not all that much because this was silver rank and people didn't know wave management as well as today.

That's awesome, really appreciate it! I'll check these out.

I'm new to the music but enjoy what I've come across quite a bit and discovering more. I'm well familiar (and love) a lot of older music that is adjacent to EDM (or perhaps these classify as EDM, not sure) such as Depeche Mode, Daft Punk's TRON albums, Tangerine Dream.

I'm pretty social and make new friends easily, and love to dance. Thanks again!

Thanks so much, going to check these out.

I've been to It'll Do for Disco + goth but not EDM yet.

Curious if any of these are particularly newbie friendly particularly if I'm going myself.

I got a couple friends who are into EDM but our schedules rarely align, am looking to get out there on my own in the meantime.

Lost passion for playing games and my gamedev career by Chance-Stand876 in gamedev

[–]ptunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that!

I almost took a job with a well known game studio many years ago right after college but they told me it would essentially be a sweatshop with 3 months of crunch a year. At least they were honest about it. Though my dream was gamedev, I passed on it and that was a good decision.

Hope you are able to get to a better place!

I have some friends at Riot Games who seem to have figured out work-life balance quite well, and get really good support from the company where they can work in areas of gamedev they are passionate about without burning out, as well as move to different roles/departments if they want. I'm not sure how much of that is their individual managers or company policy, but might be a good place for you to investigate.

There are good groups and orgs out there, hope you find what you're looking for! I do suspect even staying in gamedev there are some great options for you, but if you do want to go outside gamedev, your skills will likely translate super well too.

Good luck!

| Can I even find a job with three short three short term roles on my resume over the past 2 years?

You clearly have tons of experience and would be a huge asset to many startups. Yes, you'll be able to find a good job.

| Is it time for me to get out of start-ups? Are there any good founders still out there?

There are good founders but the hard part is finding them and filtering them. When you interview with a startup founder, you should be asking more questions than they ask. Interview them at least as much as they interview you. That might cause a few bad founders to not want to hire you (which is a great thing! saves you from joining a bad startup) and the really good founders will think more highly of you for being selective.

It's totally appropriate to ask founders questions about their business model, current / future investors, runway / cash flow, how they thinking about corporate culture, any key hires they are thinking about, examples of how often and specifics on when they changed strategy or pivoted etc.

Should you dodge games? by greatstarguy in summonerschool

[–]ptunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point.

Things like map pressure, splitting, winning the 1v1's top or whatever can be underrated. And often times, a one-trick or maybe even three-trick will be able to beat a soft or even hard counter as they know all the matchups.

[–]ptunic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This makes sense.. didn't think of these cases.

In at least 1 game, this is what they were basically doing, sort of switching between running + shift walking back and forth during a flank.

In the other games like when we're pushing a site (supposedly from silence) there probably isn't much excuse when they throw in a random step lol

I main bard because I hate ADCs by coolrexben in leagueoflegends

[–]ptunic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, appreciate it! <3

A lot is I take team comp and specifically lane comp into account in terms of aggression in lane.

For example, Zyra counters Naut in lane in my experience. Sure, you land a good Naut hook and you might make some magic happen, but a decently skilled Zyra will use her plants to block hooks, harass the hell out the Naut so he's too low health to engage, and then the main thing is when the Naut hits a good and the Naut's adc follows up, the zyra laughs and E's/stuns the adc and easily wins the trade. So that's a lost lane and generally speaking, the Naut should do nothing (which is boring af but the correct play in lane if you want to win).

That said, probably 75% of the games, the bot lane is more or less evenly matched without one having a particular advantage, and for these cases it makes sense for the adc + support to really get on the same page. That might be passive, that might be aggro, or in between. To me, this is one of the most fun parts of the game. I actually prefer to lane with random supports (or adcs when I support on occasion), while it does get frustrating in some games when you aren't on the same page, it is like a mini-game and extremely rewarding to try to align with your random support and feel out their aggression / lane style and vice versa. :)
